Haha yeah that plastic smell is something else:P too bad about the burned crud around the edges when you cut it with a grinder, real pain to get off. Nice shield though!

Merry Christmas to you too! It's kind of hard to see, but I wrapped up one of my T700 engine cores with Christmas lights and stood it up in the living room. Feel free to steal the idea...I would love to see other engines all lit up. ~ Chris

Same forest with the trees covered in $100 bills. Money DOES go on trees! I owe somebody a forest full.

Hi guys! I started making the glass fiber fairing a couple of days ago, the plan was to make a negative mold on the styrofoam plug to cast the real fairing in but I thought "screw it" and made the fairing directly on the plug instead. To keep the polyester from melting the styrofoam I covered the plug in both tape and plastic foil, I was a bit nervous since I hadn´t done this before and on top of that decided to cut some corners with the directly-on-plug casting. After four layers of woven glass fiber put on two layers each day with time for it to cure in between it looked like this. I let it rest until today and after an 18km night run with a friend I decided to see how it turned out. Not bad at all! Much better than I could possibly have guessed in fact. I have only trimmed the fairing sides with an angle grinder so the fit against the frame will be better later when I have spent some more work on it, it looks to have a very snug fit against the top of the tyre but there is >5cm clearance which is good since the spiked tyre will need some extra space. I haven´t decided yet if I should leave the opening as it is or block it off with a sheet of aluminum, I would appreciate suggestions from someone who is into bike aerodynamics about this. Anyway, I am very pleased with how it turned out. Some glass fiber putty, a bit of grinding and a layer of 2K paint and it will look even better. Cheers! /Anders

Hi Anders
Now that finishes off the streamlining nicely :-)
Cheers John

Hi Anders, love the tail.... I am no expert on Aero, but I have been going over a little on the tail with my car. We were basically looking at how the chutes would deploy based on the air coming off the body. A couple of things we found out were that a flat tail will create a low pressure are that will effect top speed, but not probably as big a deal as we thought. Secondly air coming off the tail will spiral, I guess you wont be running chutes so I am not sure if this is any problem for you. Another general thing I found out was that forget what you know about air foils you may have seen in turbines and aircraft wings. These work basically in 2 dimensions and car/bike works in 3 dimensions also we are working close to the ground so once again things work counter intuitively and air moves in ways you may not have thought of. Also with a turbine we are pumping a fair bit of hot air out the exhaust and this also has an effect on air flow over the rear particularly if you get a little bit of yaw (slide) happening. If you are interested I would recommend contacting Woody www.designdreams.biz/index.html he was responsible for the aero on castrolrocket.com/ bike and he is doing my stuff. It is really not that expensive and I have already found things that would have slowed my car considerably and made it quite unsafe in some conditions. Needless to say these have been changed and I am still looking at more changes. Cheers Ian...

Thanks John and Ian! After some advice on Landracing.com I think I will leave the rear open. The aerodynamics on the fairings is probably relatively poor compared to the off the shelf landracing fairing that you see on almost every fast bike on the salts, but how fun would that be to just buy a fairing that looks exactly like every one elses? It will be a work in progress, I will take some pics of the bike with me on it later to get an idea of how the air will pass over and around the vehicle. I don´t think that hiring a professional at this point is a good idea, but later when I have developed it as far as I can I will probably need some experienced help. Cheers! /Anders

Hi guys! After a long Christmas vacation it was time to pull the thumbs out and get some work done on the bike! I made a template for the side covers on the rear frame, I will cut them out in sheet metal later this week. I also removed some material from the jet exhausts to get the exhaust angled more towards the rear than straight out. After that I fixed some bits and pieces, changed the emergency stop to an NC instead of the NO I accidentally bought earlier, got all air out from the front brake system, started planning for a metal front fender for the spiked tyre, did some more planning on a fire extinguisher built from a Soda Streamer gas bottle and played some Slayer while cleaning up the workshop. :-) I have made a long list of stuff I need to get for the bike so hopefully I can source all of it in a week or two, I will try to have the bike ready as soon as possible so I won´t have to work all night before hauling it to Speed Weekend. Cheers! /Anders Tjo!:tummenupp

Looking good! I forgot all about speed weekend! So you're going to run the bike there, that'll turn a few heads I see the guys from Svarthålet Racing are going too, with an improved pulse-jet sled? I have some reading up to do
