John, check the website www.full-race.com. They have the BW turbo speed sensors and readout displays, etc. Thanks, Ron

Hi Guys Finally mounted the starter limit switch so that the starter can't be energised unless fully engaged over the comp nut , and de energised before its fully disengaged Cheers John

Thanks Adam, hopefully I'll be able to get her up to high power settings without excessive temperatures :-)
LOL, I've been busy over the years , I like making engines .

John -
This engine is shaping up to be an old-school brute. Reminds me of the classic low compression turboshaft engines that idle high rev, but make terrific shaft power in the last 10% of the HP rev range - except you're doing as much in 1 centrifugal stage as the old engines did in 7 axial stages. I'm very interested in how she plots revs vs. P2 and temps as you continue ironing out the mechanicals and getting more clean runs. I'm guessing the LP design parameters will be "narrow" compared to most turbocharger based engines, but I have complete faith in your abilities.

Hi Bryan
LOL, thanks for the faith , you've probably got more than me at the moment ;-)
I'm just waiting on the delivery of a couple of parts to finish off the mods to the test stand before doing more testing , hopefully in a couple of weeks time I'll some good "numbers"
Cheers John

Hi Guys
Well finally the freepower gearbox has arrived from Italy , only 6 months from when I ordered it , but better late than never , a nice looking shaft mounted alloy unit ready to slip straight on a 40 mm kart axle ;-)
Weighs ~15 Kgs, comes with a 25 mm input shaft .
I haven't been able to do any testing of the 12/118 engine as an old back injury has started playing up and I can't manhandle the test stand onto the trailer , hopefully if I don't aggravate the injury it'll go away in a week or two , it usually does,..... I'm itchin' to get those high power numbers as the mods to the test stand are completed, I've been ready to go for a week.....bummer .
Cheers John

Hi John
Hope the back gets better soon ,cant wait to see the full throttle run how about some photos of your new gearbox Cameron and I are looking into a gearbox for FatMumma re using some pre loved parts into a custom design housing gonna have to talk to Anders to get some casting tips lol
Get well soon and say hi to Linda
Cheers Chris

Hi Chris Pics as requested . And with 4th stage Allison C30 wheel slipped over the input shaft , just enough clearance for the axle Not a bad gearbox for $AU 1,100 , can't wait to have a look inside it :-) Cheers John

Hi Chris
Due to the 2 stage reduction in the gearbox , and the rotational direction of the C30 wheel , theres going to be some "imagination" required in the mounting of the gas producer , at this early stage its looking like the gas producer will need to be mounted to the rear of the freepower , overhung behind the axle with the inlet facing backwards ............at least that'll stop stuff getting sucked into the engine .
If this gearbox works out OK then I think its a cheap option , by the time gears are purchased and casting made and machined the costs won't be much different
Cheers John

Cheers Chris

Love the gearbox John...."Just enough clearance for the axle"...?? Hmmmm...With the nozzle guide vane and exhaust housing around it you may not have much room left at all.
Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Chris
Yep , she's a solid unit , I took the input pinion out this arvo , its supported on a couple of good sized ball races with a 30 tooth helical gear on the end , this meshes into a 39 tooth gear on the intermediate shaft .
I'll be interested to see what sort of gearbox you come up with .
Can't see any problems with an east/west mounting.
Cheers John
