Hi John, Yeah going to dig a bit more and remove the apron as there is a lot of crud that has settle on the bottom of the apron so it will need a good flush out with kero and a good clean behind the unit. LOL make that 170 thou Cheers, Mark.

Hi John, Yep and should get many years of service from the old girl I made up a couple of lifting blocks to lift off the apron. I know i have to remove the shafts support block, but i don't know if the shafts need to be pulled out first or do i slide the apron of the shafts I don't see the rack teeth under the bedway. Andrew said he will pop in some time this week so i will put him to work, he is good at pulling things apart Cheers, Mark.

Hi Richard, Thanks mate. Yeah when you get some spare cash get yourself a old lathe but have a good look a round as there are ones that have been flog and make sure it comes with lot of tools and accessories if you can, with this lathe i got two Okuma tool boxes, 4 jaw chuck, two steady rests, face plate and six multifix type B tool holders which are worth over $1,000. Ok i got the apron off and as you can see it will need a good clean. I could not remove the pin that holds the lead screw will try again tomorrow. I am very tempted to give her a fresh coat of paint will see how i go with the cleaning. Cheers , Mark.

Hi John, Yep many years of service she done without a good cleanout. I think i may partially dissemble the apron to help with the cleaning, i think i can unbolt the bottom plate on the apron that's were all the crud has settle if i had the bloody manual i would know what i am doing right or wrong on pulling things apart so far just taking lots of photos to help with reassemble. The Felt Wiper Pads arrive today very good quality not like that cheap and nasty stuff. Cheers, Mark.

Hi John, If i was going to do a full paint job on her i would get very precious with her I done some cleaning on the apron today, remove the bottom plate and clean out all the sludge. I want to remove some of those rusty gears and shafts but those bloody pins won't budge will use the heat gun and see if that will work Will do a final clean tomorrow and put the apron on the workbench and check for any damage gears ect,ect Cheers, Mark.

Hi John, Yep thanks . A member on the metalworkforums.com ask me why do i wont to remove the shafts and gears I said to clean them, well he said are they damage,or seize no i said. Well just give them a clean with a small wire brush and maybe use some evaporrust and leave it at that. So i will shut up and do as he says as this thing is 50 years old i don't wont to break anything Cheers, Mark.
