Hi Ian,
Hmmm,,,with laser cutting and a small CNC router or mill, maybe I'll think about making a Schreckling "short kit". I plan on retiring at the end of next year and need an endevour to keep me occupied (instead of the wife yelling at me,,,lol). I would have to find a universally available outer case similar to the Fuehr Dosen camping gas cylinder.
Regards
Jeff

That sounds like a smashing idea, Jeff! With all the discussion and activity in your current thread, I'm certainly tempted to build one as a side project. Always liked that covered compressor, it's such an elegant home-brew solution. I got the rolled bits back today, so some happy time in the workshop with the hot metal glue guns over the weekend is in order. Love a bit of welding! Have a great weekend, everyone Ian

Time for another update I got a few bits rolled and had my first go with the TIG: No filler, just little spots on lowest power to see how it goes without blowing holes. I went back to the trust MIG to tack the flame tube, though. Mostly because I didn't actually have any stainless rods, and I'm impatient. I was curious to see how the laser cutting affected the hardness of the stainless, so I tapped a few holes. No bother there! I popped the upper and lower plates on the lathe to bring down a touch as they were a tiny bit too tight in the can. Anyone else find setting up the 4 jaw chuck rather satisfying? A few tacks on the combustor can, and I can start to see how it looks And if there was any doubt in my mind about the dimensional accuracy of the cuts, there sure isn't now Little mock up to see how the inlet will look. I'm going to split the elbow near the top and fan out with a few sections let in to form a nice diffuser entry And all the while, my 3D printer is working on a mandrel to bend my entry/slip rings round That's all for now! I'm out of welding gas and need to get some stainless TIG rods in. Hoping the wheels and belt for the oil pump arrive soon. Cheers Ian

Thanks Jeff. Time for an update! I've finally got the oil pump working properly after the belt and wheels arrived from China: 100psi on full chat with 12v. Not sure what the pressure relief valve is doing as that's a bit high really, but I'll mess with it later. I can fine tune with the PWM box if needed. My new welding helmet arrived too, which should cope with the low amperage TIG operations better. The old one was a bit hit and miss about triggering, so I stopped! Cheers Ian
