John,
Hope it works out. I'll be following with great interest. I'm pushing the comp. inducer/turb. exducer limit....though you are totally off the reservation..;-)
Bthw your "fatboy" thread pics are all missing on my end..sad to say.

Hi Monty
Strange you can't see the pics , I just checked and they're OK at this end , is it only some or all of them ??
My local turbo guy hunted around for the turb wheel but only came up with a 3 month wait and a price of ~$AU1,400 or ~$US 1,000 , so I might try your supplier , he also told me that Garrett haven't been producing those wheels since 2012 , probably because they're used in a very limited number of turbos.
Cheers John

Bad news about the turbine not being in current production. The Holset model is a bit more expensive and the bearings are smaller in dia. Wonder if they are still making it???
My box from Garrett said "Made in Mexico"
I can't see any pics earlier than about page 50 in the Fat Boy thread. After page 50 is OK.

Hi Monty It looks like Rotomaster might be making the turb wheel www.rotomaster.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Brochure-Waukesha.pdf I'll check them out , the F Trim wheel I use is a Rotomaster unit. Rotomaster talk about "North American Manufacture" I guess that means Mexico , and some incestuous rebranding between turbo manufacturers . Strange about the Fat Boy pics , they seem to be there for me , I wonder if anyone else is having problems ?? Cheers John

Between work, the GF, and dealing with the aftermath of a giant windstorm.....I haven't had much time to post lately. Mostly because I've been flogging away on the design with every spare waking moment...and a bit in my sleep too! Do any of you guys wake up and think about stuff while half asleep???....but I digress.
I think I have finally got the rotating assembly nailed down. I've decided to go with an overhung combustion can design after much back and forth. It's not an overhung shaft like a Solar though...There is a bushing between the comp and turbine. The thrust load and front location is accomplished with a deep groove 1620 hybrid ceramic bearing. I arrived at this after much back and forth head scratching. I expect the first o rder whirl about the ball race to be well damped by the bushing. I'm a little concerned about 2nd order whirl....but hopefully it won't be an issue. Trying to analyze that....just too many unknowns.
The pinion is actually the nut holding the whole thing together. The nut on the front is a lock nut. I would have used a grub screw....but M11X1 left-hand, cone-face, grub-screws are apparently not too common..
If anyone knows where to find one, I'm all ears!
This will be the last post I make in this thread except to answer questions. I will start a build thread in the DIY turbines section with some pics of the rotating assembly next.

I have found running to be the perfect thinking time for me, I have lost count on how many problems on the bike I have solved while running. It clears up the mental fog somewhat for me.😁
Lets move on the discussion to the build thread, this is a very interesting project!
