Hi John, Nice gearbox looks like this might be a simple free power gearbox that most DIY people can build Just been looking at some photos of the cartridge starter i have. The gears in your gearbox look to be more heavy duty than my gearbox has. This chap try to blow up one of these cartridge starter. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcwnZYXMaho Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark Hopefully they'll be strong enough. Had to make a mod to the input casing today , normally the hydraulic pump that this gearbox is designed for has the pump located concentricaly by a snout on the pump that fits internally into the casing outboard of the bearing , but because of the requirements to fit bearings into my freepower shaft tunnel I need to have the shaft tunnel located externally on the casing spigot , so it took a couple of hours to make up the jig to spend 5 minutes machining the case , but it turned out OK . The jig located into the bearing bore and was held flat on the face plate . a few pics Cheers John

Hi Ben
Its the OD of the projection in the bottom pic , it was originally as cast , but because all the bearing recesses were machined from the other side of the casting , including the ID of that projection where the hydraulic pump would normally be fitted into to provide concentricity, the "accuracy" of the OD was unimportant.
But because my ball race is a tad bigger than that bore I need to locate the shaft tunnel on the OD of the projectin so it needed trueing up .
As cast it was ~45 mm dia , I only took off sufficient material to reduce diameter to 44.5 mm , it was ~0.4 mm "off" , so virtually nothing on one side.
Cheers John

Hi John, any more progress on your freepower build? Im following with interest, would love to freepower the HC5A kart sometime in the future. I have a 3rd and 4th stage allison C20 wheels with one of the NGVs. They seem to be available from time to time on ebay often cheaper than say a HX82 turbine wheel

Hi
Its sorta come to a standstill since I got interested in the new engine build ...........just sitting on my workbench , I need to make up a shaft tunnel and other bits , the energy just isn't there :-( .......another project for the storage cupboard .
Yep, you'll be needing an Allison wheel for your build , have fun with the A/B first but once you've tasted a freepowers output you'll never go back to thrust :-)
Cheers John
