Hi John, Your engine will be a true landmark for how far we´ve come with DIY turbines, and if it gets airborne it will be even better! I sort of lost steam when the construction stage of the bike ended, and without having even once raced the JU-02 bike I don´t want to start any new project. We´ll see how things develop, hopefully there will be races held next summer but I strongly doubt it. I´ll have to sit down and dig through the forum projects I´ve missed over the last year, lots of fun stuff going on here! Cheers! /Anders

I know how you felt , something similar happened to me after my bike and kart builds , ..................I went and started playing with the PJ for something different , but eventually felt the urge for turbines again .
You reached very high heights with your JU-01 bike at >300kph in the Mile , that was gunna be hard to beat , any wonder the enthusiasm waned , but I have faith in your competative spirit ;-)

I second that, John has been setting a standard for us to follow for years, so looking forward to seeing this engine spool up Hi Anders like John said, welcome home ... was good to see video of the bike with the new engine running in it, would love for you to come to UK and run at Elivington..... but with how things are still, perhaps next year... and yes more video, are there any 1/4 mile tracks open... Looks like I need to get something together.....

Hi Guys Progress being made. The shaft tunnel is finished only a few lube fittings to be silver soldered , gotta get some once our Covid lockdown allows me to travel . Once I removed all the 12/118 engine ancillories from the test stand in preparation for installing the new engine , it was looking bare enough for me to reconsider giving it a renovation , so made up a new board for the gauges so that I can see them all at once . I've also rigged up a new engine mount , nice and solid for the potential 300 lbs of thrust under afterburn . LOL...............please, no crass remarks about my bellmouth , its off a brass funereal urn I found in the local Op shop for a couple of dollars , nice decorative inlet border Theres basicaly only the outer can to go , hopefully in the next few weeks Cheers John

Yep , it'll be polished up :-)
The P4t gauge is the "important" one when it comes to thrust output , I'd love to see 1 Bar registering with this engine , fingers crossed .

John, Really enjoying this build. My design is limited by the turbine. I could increase my overall pressure ratio if the turbine was larger. This would help with fuel efficiency, while keeping the same power output to the fan. Do you have link to a drawing or more info on the turbine? I'm also interested in the "RaketJector" Monty

Hi Guys
Progress is being made :-) ...........lotsa little jobs that take time but aren't worthy of pics .
Fuel manifold finished , A/B hot streak added , sheet metal shop rolling up the outer can , silicone O'rings ordered , ignitor mounting and flametube seal made , combustor drain made , outer can slipjoint made , various stainless screws purchased , lockwire holes drilled in vulnerable screws .
Once the outer can is back home I can get its mounting holes drilled and the comp front cover drilled and tapped for its screws, and the rear concave wall and slipjoint added to the outer can , so maybe another week before I can do the first trial assembly of the engine .
Then disassemble once the comp clearances have been sorted and have the rotor balanced , and we'll be ready for the final assembly and mounting on the test stand .
Yep , she'll be fired up well before Christmas :-)

Hi Guys Thought it about time to attempt to get the comp bolted up to the shaft with all the bits in place Had considerable problems , firstly the comp bore appeared a tad small as the wheel could only go on a tad before getting too tight . So checked bore against the original comp wheel with a ground 1/2" measureing tool , the original comp was even tighter , so back to measuring the shaft which turned out at exactly 12.71 mm as it should be. Comp wheel was heated to ~80 deg C and it went on further but still needed help under the drill press to go fully on . I let things cool to see if the bore might "relax" to size , but no , it needed the wheel heating to get it off under the drill press . Wheel bore ended up with some score marks not bad , but also not good . Did find the culprit though , at the end of the thread where it joins the ground quill section there was some alloy on the ground surface . Into the lathe for a bit of emery to remove the alloy and a measure up , yep, a fraction of a thou bigger than its 12.71 mm , so more emery to get it within specs . Now with the wheel warmed I can slide it all the way home just with modest hand pressure Another job completed Cheers John

John, another "the prints shows an interference but the parts are assembled" problem. When I worked for an industrial compressor manufacture we had a Japanese licensee. The Japanese complained that the drawings we gave them showed an interference. It turned out that the guys in the shop were hand fitting the parts with files etc.
