Hi All,
I've been reading here off an on since being told about this forum by Smithy1 whom I met at a local event in Newcastle NSW some years ago now (Checking the date stamp on some photos and video I took of his Go Kart, Dec 2016! wow, that was some years ago) and have decided to have a crack at this myself.
I've been watching the usual YouTube videos and reading on here, and have seemed to grasp a reasonable understanding on the basics/fundamentals.
The biggest thing I'm questioning is turbocharger choice. The general consensus I've gathered is the bigger the better, for thrust and ease of getting the thing to run. That said, this is going to be built to a budget and isn't being made to break any records or even power a vehicle or device, just simply to get one running on a bench for the fun of it. Now that I've outlined my intended use, then comes turbocharger selection. Again from what I've read, diesel engine turbos seem to have desirable characteristics that lend well to this use, however I haven't had much luck finding one for sale, or I'm not looking in the right places or for the right thing - They all seem rather small off 4cyl-6cyl commercial vehicles or well into the thousands of dollars. It's also likely that this is just what you have to outlay to get the most suitable turbocharger.
This is an option I'm looking at for a few reasons, namely being price & physical size. The thing that concerns me is that it's a twin scroll design - is this a problem? And are these things best avoided because of the price and related build quality.

Or this one, which seems to not have this potential problem

If all this has been discussed in a previous thread that I haven't found, then a link would be great and I'll continue reading over there.
Of course any other input would be great,
Thanks all!
Jacob
