Easy shaft turbine power

Some kind of energy recovery system. Ive seen them on busses and coaches bolted on thw back of the turbo.
Its hard to find info on them to be honest.
The ones ive seen in person look like they pump oil or generate electricity.

Anyway, could whop it on the back of my latest turbine and get some shaft horsepower )

A centrifugal clutch on the end of that shaft and it would be good to stick in a kart or bike

Interesting that its a radial inflow setup rather than the axial wheel normally used on these truck compound systems

That is great to see that the Scania power turbines are in fact made by Holset.  I discussed it as a theory that they were made not by Scania, but by Holset here:

If you get those SAE papers you may be able to get a bit of information on the original Holset radial flow power turbine setups.  It has been a while since I dug into them so I can't recall what relevant info is in there,

Hmm it looks like a very potentially usable item, it's made up of two main parts with the wheel side having a complete bearing setup and the output side having a built-in massive reduction gearbox attached to what looks like either a torque converter box or something else

From what I can see they're used on the latest scania trucks/ k series chassis busses

theres possibly a fluid coupling to prevent output gear sending unwanted/damaging forces back to the pinion.

nice unit , yep a possible freepower unit for a kart

The turbo it's paired to is a 63mm comp 70mm ex turbine, holset hx52 I think. Wonder what size this part could take might have to see if I can find the wheel size

racket turns out volvo did a similar design however use an axial turbine setup, dieselnet.com/tech/images/engine/whr/turbocompound/volvo_d12.hires.jpg

First gen was 2017 and they brought out a new version in 2020. From what I've read it produced 50hp. Think the actual engine is d13 not 12

Happen to speak to a guy today who practically knows everything about scania engines and knew about this turbocompound setup, he said that they often failed due to lack of oil and had enough power that that actually damaged the rest of the engine lol. Mostly used on the 470hp engine and primary 2003/4 year.
