Hi Guys. This is what I have been working for quite some time. Launching my open source Automotive grade JET-ECU. Capabilities- 1. We have separated the logic controller and the power electronics. This makes this ECU compatible with brushed and brushless motors for both starter and fuel pump of all kinds. Just bring in your own brushless or brushed motor with its own ESC and use them. 2. Compatible with rc engines of all sizes. If you can get a suitable ESC for your engine’s starter motor and fuel pump, you can use this ECU. 3. Uses waterproof 48 pin automotive ECU connector 4. Directly stream your engine data to your smartphone using a secure wifi connection. (No APP needed) 5. ECU tuning directly from the smartphone. 6. Overspeed, Over-temp protection built in(obviously). 7. Built in fuel and gas solenoid functionality. 8. Takes K type thermocouple and RPM sensor input to run the engine. (I can throw in a suitable RPM sensor for $50 extra, you will need a magnet in the compressor nut, I can help you arrange that as well at extra cost) 9. I have tested the RPM sensor from a 20kg engine all the way upto a HX82 sized (similar to Rackets 10/98 engine) and it has worked flawlessly. 10. Ability to add a separate RPM display like Auber Tachometer ASL-62 display (https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=16&products_id=212) 11. Built in glow plug driver 12. Currently ECU is gas start compatible 13. Direct Kero start version coming soon and every ECU will be upgraded free of cost via firmware update. 14. Sorry we are working on oil pressure control version of the ECU at the moment. Easily convert your hobby engines or Rc engines to Auto start and remote controlled using this JET ECU for introductory price of $299 each.Free shipping within USA. 60 days no questions asked return. If you don’t like it just return it. What you get- 1. ECU enclosed in a proper enclosure 2. Wiring harness 3. Manual 4. 24x7 support 5. Firmware software Extras- RPM sensor Magnet

Sorry only USA orders at the moment. If you are located outside US please PM me and I will try to figure out the best option.
I am located in MN Minneapolis area so if you are near and want to see a demo, I can arrange that as well.
Thanks

This will make life of many DIY jet enthusiasts way more easier, very reasonable pricing too! Can you post some screenshots of the current software?

All the settings on Page 1 and page 2 are editable.
Page 5 allows user to run the engine on Autostart, Fuel control or starter control mode. Pump prime is another option.
Thanks

Patty that looks fantastic!!...My starter uses a VESC controller. It is a starter generator. Basically the firmware is configured to transition to regen braking mode after the start signal is turned off, and it goes into current and voltage control mode. I was planning to use the rpm signal from the VESC as a tach for the engine ecu. Not sure if that will work with your controller or not. The rpm is on the fan side, so it's not the same as the core, but it just needs to be multiplied by the gear ratio. Either way, I could put an rpm sensor on the core if it can't.
Do you have a wired method of obtaining data? Like canbus or serial port?
Are the outputs standard PWM signals?

When I started working on this I realised people would want to use their own power stages especially for starter motors etc. BUT I am working on a version that will incorporate a VESC power stage into the ECU itself. But to answer your question, yes this ECU can work with any ESC or VESC as long it takes a standard RC PWM input pulse for throttle (which I guess all ESCs and VESCs take) For the RPM it has the ability to take a “single pulse” or a “dual pulse” digital signal as RPM input. It has a built in amplifier for signal conditioning as well if someone wants to use their rpm sensor. Otherwise I can add a RPM sensor as well to the purchase that works flawlessly with this ECU. Yes they are all standard RC PWM signals. Right now there is no wired method of data transfer. Thanks

Hi Guys. This is what’s included and will be shipped. A properly sealed well built ECU enclosure with waterproof automotive connector and wiring harness. 3-pin and 2-pin watertight automotive male connectors. I will also toss in the female connectors that you can then solder on to your engine’s input/outputs. All ECUs will be tested before shipping. Regards. Patty

I currently have plans to use a vesc for the starter/gen, and the fuel pump. The oil pump, I was going to just use a motor with a pressure regulator. The issue is power for the starter. I was planning to max out the voltage on the VESC. I think 70ish volts. The more the better...A standard throttle position sensor would be nice. Not having to convert it to a PWM signal before the controller. I like the use of automotive parts. They (can be) high quality and reasonably priced compared to aircraft stuff. What voltage are you running the ECU at?

Hi Monty. I understand the use of standard throttle Hall effect signal.
The ECU is running at 5v. You can power it off of the standard ESC’s BEC power supply directly or a separate 5v supply. I have tried both.
Regards.

Patty,
I'm running into some issues with my plan to use the VESC. It will power a starter no problem. The issue is using it to control a generator. The issue is ERPM limits. The current VESC architecture is limited to 150000 erpm. With a 4 pole motor you can get to 37500 rpm. If you want to control the motor in regen mode for power out, you need to use a 2 pole motor. 2 pole motors are hard to find in the size needed for a starter. Something to consider when you are incorporating motor control into your design. Not sure if you were intending the VESC integration to control the fueling, starting or both.
Any ETA on the integrated unit? I have a current project that could use it.

Hi Monty. I have been going back and forth on integrating the VESC on a single chip. Reasons being- 1. Chip size gets too big 2. Power components are more prone to failures 3. Not everyone wants same power draw etc. 4. Cost
What I have been thinking is getting a separate power chip (VESC or ESC) and mount it on top of my ECU board using standoffs. I have been talking to ESC suppliers and some are willing to “adapt” their ESCs to accept the slight design changes. I cannot beat the commercial availability and cost of the ESc or VESc with my smaller volumes.
If you interested to follow this route then maybe we can do this together. I can adapt my ECU boards to accept whatever ESC or VESC you decide to choose. I can then incorporate the interconnection design connectors etc.
On a brighter side- I have added many new functionalities to my existing ECU- I have added-
1. Full Kerosene start 2. Support for 2x Solenoid valves (drivers inbuilt) to accept fuel or gas solenoids 3. Pressure transducer connections (ECU can take usual 0-5v pressure sensor input) 4. Thrust sensor(Load Cell) amplifier built in ECU. Just connect any 4 wire load cell to measure thrust. 5. Built in driver for kero-start plug or glow plug.
I am receiving some new PCBs next week of you are willing to try.
Regards.

Patty,
I'll give it whirl. Let me know where and how to pay. I am going to be out of pocket visiting family for a bit, but I think I need an early Christmas present!

monty. Another thing I forgot to mention- The current version of the ECU also has Serial communication capability added to it along with the Wifi capability it already had. Thanks
