When you find a 16 cly Rolls/Royce or Merlin running and for sale ... I will take it. Over the years everything state side has been destroyed.
Most hobbies have a 10 year life cycle. I have seen it in the racing communities for over 40 uears. I hope the turbine and DIYs stay active forever.
What we learn here can be used for years and is a fun way to experiment on designs an parts that may become commercial items later on.

Finished up another part this weekend, the compressor cover / inlet. This was the last of the machined parts to be made. The remaining parts are sheet metal components, the combustion chamber, outer case and fuel / lube supplies. A couple of photos. Measuring the transition curve of the compressor wheel, an insulated probe is connected to my fluke multimeter with the audible continuity alarm set. This is used to create a table of offsets, later used to cut the inlet cover. Rear view of the same setup. Photo of the finished inlet. Its starting to look like a turbine Regards, Steve.

Thanks guys. It worked out better than I thought it would, here is a close up pic of the gap between the compressor and the housing. It's about 0.1 mm, should be good for efficiency. Steve

very nice work. I suppose you couls also use a compass and make two perpendicular bisecors to measure the raduis, but your method seems to work brilliantly

The combustion chamber is almost done. The spacers that attach it to the diffuser, and the vaporiser sticks still have to made and fitted. Some progress photos of the combustion chamber build. ( there are more at the photo bucket site ) The major parts All clamped up ready for welding. Test fitting the CC on the NGV. Regards. Steve.

Minor update.. The combustion chamber welding is done, vaporiser sticks have been added to the rear ring. Photo of the CC Started work on the plumbing, the lube line been bent up and installed. Photo... Photo to the major parts made to date. I planning on finishing the fuel ring tomorrow, and to make a start on the outer case. Steve.

Thanks John, it's getting closer, the fuel ring is done, here is the obligatory shot of the flame test low pressure high pressure While it was burning I ran a small flame around all the joints looking for leaks, I found no leaks, so it looks like I have a good ring. Steve.

The outer case is done, It was made from a couple of sheets of stainless. Pic here.. Photo prior to welding. And a couple of shots of the case fitted to the engine. Its starting to look like an engine There's a few more small bits and pieces to make and then it will be time to think about balancing. Regards. Steve.
