HI guys bet you all thinking us lot in the UK lost the plot now :-) but yes the plan is to build a bike with a diy engine in it thats been built be one of the group. make a frame not unlike the one Anders has fashioned so well, with a free power unit to a fly wheel and clutch, hoping to get to 150mph in quarter mile....... So guys could do with your help, if any one knows of any free power turbine unit, turbine or ngv wheels, even big air starters that can be got please let me know thanks Andy www.diygt.org

oh shit... Andy wants to go faster...... Explain why freepower/flywheel/clutch? I think you need a freepower direct drive, or a single shaft w a clutch. The flywheel will be pointless on a single shaft as the N1 mass*rpm will sling your ass along pretty micely. if anything a heavier N1 rotating assembly?
If you put the same love in this as the kart it could be interesting.

Hi Chris
It'll be a 2 shaft engine , Andy is using my 9/94 engine for the gas producer, she was sitting around doing nothing, just cluttering up my shed living like a homeless person in a cardboard box , so I offloaded her to good home where she'll have to earn her keep :-)
We've been exploring ideas to reduce the 0-60mph times, that annoying couple of seconds when we have lotsa torque at the rear wheel but not much horsepower due to the absence of blade velocity in the equation ...............hopefully we can come up with a suitable design where we have maybe 25-40% N2 when the lights go green.
I don't feel Andy will need a multi speed gearbox if we can get that rotating freepower , perhaps a centrifugal clutch arrangement after the initial ~6:1 redux, or maybe even an auto torque converter buried in the back wheel, it'll have to be pretty big as it'll need to handle ~700 ft lbs of torque in the position and lockup at ~ 800 rpm
Its going to be an interesting build ........heh heh , as you and I know, once Andy has tasted a freepowers performance he'll never be satisfied with just thrust again ;-)
Cheers John

Well I say torque converter w a waste gate between the gg and free turbine. Open the gate, 100%, slam gate shut..... flash converter... break axles...

Hi Guys Just want to firstly say a big thank you to John There are lots of things still to sort out, one of the over riding things that will control the decisions as to how this project comes together is parts. Yes there will be lots of thought of how to get best out the engine, keep the drive train as simple as possible. But also how easy it is to get replacement parts, how easy it is to get parts made, the fabrication skills I have and those of friends and companies that help me I did think myself of air bleed arrangement, with a butterfly valve I have, but the big worry for me is that it may cause a spike of TOT. I have brought today front end and back wheel with brakes etc of GSXR750 the guy I brought them off turned out to be a racer him self and loved what I plan to do, he’s helping sort out a few others bits fairing etc. I know there are perhaps lighter units out there but parts bearings, pads etc are all over the place. I did look at some bits from smaller bikes, RS125 etc but I don’t know why but they did seem not to have the build quality. I will be getting rid of as much weight as possible though, cutting off un-needed lugs etc Andy www.diygt.org

Andym
Chris is NOT safe around any rotating mass or HOT objects. He has burned himself, on more than 1 occasion. "Carnal Fried Chicken" ... That is NOT a mistake typing his name.

HI guys Things are coming on, here is out line drawing of bike there will be some design keys taken from this frame As for the frame not having Anders skill's i was going to get a friend to help with the frame, but bumped into a guy at santa pod, i had beeen trying to find since i started thinking of this project, he is well known by drag guys as one of , if not the best frame builder in the area and he has agreed to help. Have sorted the clutch with an ap racing steel two plate 140mm unit, final drive bevel bos with 1:1.2 ratio is from an old shaft drive bike, wheels, forks and brakes from gsxr 750 srad. so over the next few weeks i will be drawing up brackets for engine mounts, get samples cut from 1mm mild steel to check fit, work on oil and fuel system. Hope to have some thing on two wheels for end of the year, and on the track for March next
