After some surprisingly simple research, I have found that duct tape begins to fail at a little over 200F. Not looking good

Wow, I am actually impressed that it lasted as long as it did.

He is obviously doing something right since he is getting plenty of views, but then again it only proves that people in general like to watch screaming fools. I bet he is a decent guy in private though.

LOL.......he's an entertainer pandering to the "school boy" in all of us and making some nice cash returns from Youtube hits, :-)
Yeh , he's a lot smarter than what the videos make out, thats why its so worrying , he gets away with doing something "smartly stupid" whereas his less informed followers could get seriously hurt by being plain stupid .
The video of his "success ??" indicates an engine on the verge of failing if run for even seconds longer , unfortunately his followers might just run their "copy cat" creations those few seconds extra .
I did like the "safety chain" holding it all together and the more suitably proportioned delivery tube , even the "muffler putty" sealing the combustor to scroll joint held up under the few psi of self sustain pressure..............but it was no "jet engine" ..........just a struggling gas turbine barely at self sustain and ready to die at any second .
If only he would give some warnings about safety precautions if anyone wanted to copy his design . .................but that would be contrary to desires of his "audience" who just want to be entertained .
He'll undoubtedly keep on making "entertaining??" videos until someone does get hurt and the lawyers get involved , ............heh heh , any money he's made off Youtube won't go far paying his own defense team in court .

I bet he is a decent guy in private though. Have to say he just the same in real life, some of us met the guy at santa pod. Well i say met, had to go over and ask if he thought it was best practice test firing his pulse jet with a crowd of the public standing at his side and if out of courtesy he had checked with staff at santa pod to do a test run. Then did his run in the arena and pointed the back end of the pulse jet at the crowd, so close that if it had blown out the flame would easily burn some one...... John, like you said, he is a smart guy, playing the fool for the crowd and making money from it at the same time. Like you i worry when most of his followers could not wire a plug, they start playing with some thing like this

Damn! Perhaps it serves as a reminder to people that propane is some nasty stuff, especially in liquid form.
I can still not believe the amount of burns he got from the short time he had his arm in the flame, if he had used some more sensible clothing he would have gotten away with a set of burned knuckles...

ouch.. That video hits me a little close to home for something I've been working on. Scary that he got burnt like that so fast. I've made a few mistakes and had some accidents, but I've been lucky enough to walk away from the minus a bit of hair each time.
