Oh well, back to the Nimbus, now I have all the parts I need for the drive line it's time to put the diff together. Step 1. Wait until the wife has gone out for the day and commandeer the kitchen. Step 2. Put the diff and side housing in the over at 150 deg C for 1/2 hour. Step 3. Put the bearings and cones in the freezer for 1/2 hour. Step 4. Assemble Step 5 clean up and get out of the kitchen before the wife gets home.

Ok now the final assembly of the diff... (for the last time I hope) I have my nice new hubs and the really narrow axel. I have set the pinion height and the back lash Now it's all sealed up and ready to hook up to the engine. Cheers Ian...

Oh well, I have not put up a post in a while on the Nimbus streamliner but have been busy with the J34 Dragster. I might put a different post on that, it is basically ready to go but just doing a couple of changes like a removable steering wheel etc. Well I have the diff all assembled. And it is all set up with the drive line and brakes in place. I have the FPT governor mounted on the rear cover and because the diff is mounted upside down I have an oil circulation system to keep the input shaft, pinion shaft and spur gears lubricated. It is not a true "dry sump" system in that the oil still resides in the diff but I have separate electric pump and oil filter mainly to increase the volume of oil available. The run will only be about 4 minutes total so I am hoping that he oil will remain cool enough over that time. If necessary I can plumb one in later. Cheers Ian...

Hi John, yep that is the next thing, still finalising things with Woody the aero guy. The body, wheels and over all dimensions are set now, the last thing is the size and position for the tail so we can get the centre of pressure in the right location in relation to centre of gravity. Too far forward and it will want to swap ends, too far back and it "weather cock" ie point into any side wind. Too high and it will want to roll outwards in a cross wind, too low and it can take traction away and make it squirrely. It is still going to be a "Best Guess" but I do have some pretty pictures to back up the guesses Cheers Ian...

It's been a while since I loaded anything here so just finished the aero final shape for the streamliner. Most of this process was about try this, try that and try and find the "least worst" solution but I think I have pretty well exhausted a lot of the options and now it is time to just bite the bullet and get into it. One of the last things we have been working on is the Canopy shape and something interesting has come up. Most closed canopy race cars, bikes, boats, aircraft etc have one that looks to one extent or another like this, ie. curved top: And so I drew one like that Woody did his magic and came up with this for relative pressure is yaw. Notice the large low pressure area on the canopy. Now this is a good idea when it come to and aircraft because the whole point is to try and keep them up in the air. On a bike, car, or boat... not so much. This is the same car on the start line And here at about 130 mph. Interesting. The amount of lift although significant is not dangerous but every little bit helps, so I have decided to go a little different in the shape. This shape is not as "slippery" but should cut down the lift as well as being a little easier to make. Once again the least bad option. Cheers Ian...

Yes, speed week does start today, this is the first one I have missed in a few years and am getting a bit twitchy at the moment, but unfortunately I have a few things to do at home this year and I plan on making the trip to Bonneville this year for a look. Bonneville ha been cancelled for the last few years due to a lack of race able salt but fingers crossed. Cheers Ian...

Been a while since I posted some details about the Nimbus streamliner. Well at long last I have the J34 all finished, approved, ANDRA stickered and ready to go. Now it is time to ****Finally**** get stuck into the turbine car. Been making some progress over the last few weeks. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ek6e6VHGHq8 Cheers Ian...
