Alas, no fire this time. Just a cold test to see if the impingement works.
I will add a port to the inlet side of the filter holder later and connect it to an oil pressure regulator, there is an internal "regulator" in the pump that restricts the pump stroke but I´ve found that the oil pressure varies with the temp so I won´t use it.

I tested the engine today and found that the shop air isn´t nearly enough to spool the turbine up, even with 2bar oil pressure it could only reach a meagre 440rpm. I will try to get the scuba tank filled this week so I can do another test with 100bar instead of 10, should be enough in my opinion. I also found that the engine internals leaked oil so I took the engine apart to remove the combustor so I can see where it leaks, it looks like the piston ring seal behind the compressor is leaking somewhat. I remember now that I didn´t check if the ring gap was up or down before the test... Cheers!

Coca Cola is UNACCEPTABLE for fueling a turbine.

I managed to borrow a 7 litre 200bar air tank from the local firestation today, when I have had a hydraulic hose made for the bottle connection I will give her a spin again. This time I think I will see more than 450rpm on the rev counter...

What kind of a spin, an actual testrun or just checking if you can get the engine revved up high enough

Hi Anders
You probably need to be able to achieve ~10,000 rpm just on the starter alone .
Cheers John

Metiz: Just a cold test to see if I can get it to rev high enough. John: Since I only got hold of a 7 litre bottle I don´t expect any longer test runs on one charge, but as long as it keeps accelerating the test is a success and I can start looking for someone who can overhaul the scuba compressor. My fathers bottle is at least twice the size of the one I borrowed yesterday so it will spool the engine up for a longer period once I have managed to fill it, it hasn´t been inspected for 15 years so I cannot get anyone to fill it for me. Safety protocols, baahhhh!

Hi Anders
LOL, only 15 years out of date ......................sorta like a lot of my LPG cylinders , I just make up a decanting system and fill my own from the "legal" BBQ bottle ;-)
I really hope the impingement start works , it'll save you having to fit an electric starter .
Cheers John

I´ve finished everything I had to do before the next start now; a leak in the the oil return plenum is fixed, the impingement nozzle is bent a bit to give the air a better angle of attack on the turbine wings, and a 1/4" hydraulic hose is fitted between the bottle and the engine. Here you can just see the tip of the impingement nozzle, much better angle now than during the 10bar test so I am eager to test it. The bottle coupling I made today, fits like a dream and the O-ring should keep it perfectly sealed. The engine side of the hose. An overview. Cheers!

Hi Anders
Now that looks a serious setup , you should hear her screaming in a matter of seconds :-)
Cheers John

All you have to do now is put some wheels on that table and you're off

There are already wheels on it, all I need is a cowboy hat and a better life insurance. ;D
