Hi John, Yup, not many miles on the busa this summer. The Bonneville won´t be finished until next summer so this years weather doesen´t matter in that case. Took it outside to see what it looks like in daylight, feels like I have found the right "flow" in the lines and it is really comfy to sit on. 100mph face, check! Cheers! /Anders

Oh well, back on topic again. I knew there was something I had forgotten when I welded the NGV vanes in place, and it was to sharpen the inlet edge on the vanes. A job that would have taken 3 minutes on the belt sander took 1.5 hours with angle grinder and Dremel... Now they are sharpened enough so they won´t mess with the air flow into the NGV. I also managed to put one of my fingers in the angle grinder, despite popular belief I can assure you that no sexual pleasure can be found that way... Cheers! /Anders

Hi Anders
OUCH !! ..........................guess you didn't feel a thing until you saw the blood :-(
Nice job on the NGV .......................LOL,...... I wouldn't have worried about sharpening them
Heh heh , did you taper the trailing edge before assembly ??
Cheers John

My hands, arms and legs have more scars than I can count but luckily I have never broken anything or lost any body parts. My hands are always in the danger zone because I don´t like wearing gloves while working, besides I rather get a few cuts now and then than get stuck with a glove in the lathe and break the wrist... John, what do you mean by trailing edge?

The leading edge is what you just sharpened, the front edge facing the incoming air. The trailing edge would be the opposite side, in front of the turbine

Aha, I haven´t done anything to the trailing edges. I leave them as they are so I can open up the throat later if needed.

This morning I made the inner NGV cone from sheet metal. It has been split vision for me this weekend since I have been following the european dragracing championship in Tierp here in Sweden on 1080p HD web streaming, 10 euro for the entire weekend with multiple cameramen, speaker voice and time table inbedded is awesome! With the top fuel elimination roaring in the workshop stereo I cut and rolled the cone. The NGV needed some trimming on the edge where the cone will be welded to. Since it is not very doable to roll a pointed cone from sheet I turned a piece of stainless rod down in the lathe. A couple of cuts later and the cone top was finished! The cone assembled, turned out nicely I think. With the cone welded I placed it on the NGV to see what it will look like, I think I´ll save welding it in place until I have coated the mild steel part of the NGV with cheramics. Cheers! /Anders

Damn everytime I see your work I want to get back in the shed. And then I look at my parts and ask myself why they don't look as good as yours and also why they aren't finished at that rate... Admit it, you have some kind of elves workshop like Santa Claus or at least live in his neighbourhood ;D Impressive work

Ha ha! If only those elves weren´t so damn thirsty I would have some beer left in my fridge. Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. I managed to hack a larger hole in my furnace this morning as well so now I have an oil burner installed instead of my whimpy propane torch. It has been pouring down outside all day but hopefully I can take it outside and test fire it some day this coming week. It should have the crucible glowing in no time! Cheers!

Finally some progress again! I talked with the gearbox guy today and after some discussions about the shaft couplings I ordered the 5:1 angle drive gearbox. It will arrive in two weeks so I have lots of work ahead of me, when I have the gearbox I have everything I need to finish the power turbine section and bike frame so I am very eager to get it! On the off topic side I have been busy making a lost foam pattern for a motorcycle gearbox a friend needs for a 700cc twostroke bike build and getting more work done on the Bonneville. I am also making a lost foam pattern for casting a new point ignition cover for the bike, it is a free interpretation of the old winged wheel symbol... Cheers! /Anders
