John, you meant a daft man at work, right? Chris, I am not really sure about that. A curvic coupling doesen´t make the ladies stare in quite the same way, the look is more "oh really...." than "oh really!!!".

I got the 45A alternator I´ve ordered today, it will be placed between the gearbox and the rear wheel and not on top of the gearbox as in the pics. There my ass will be placed. Something I hadn´t expected was to find some sort of pump on the side opposite to the pulley, if I am lucky I might be able to provide oil to the gearbox bearings and gear mesh with it. Will have to do some flow tests first to see what it is capable of. Cheers! /Anders

Hi Anders
Thats one very interesting looking alternator , I'll be interested in those pump flow figures , is it an oilpump or some sort of airpump ??
Whats the alternator off ??
Cheers John

that pump is a vacuum pump - for the brake booster in the car (since the diesel engine doesn't provide vacuum)
They also have oil fittings for lubrication. I think the air outlet is also the oil outlet, which goes back to the engine's sump.

You are probably right, another guess from some friends has been a power steering pump but the vacuum theory sounds more likely. Bugger.

Forum admin posts "I took care of it" seemingly out of the blue.... sounds scary...
