Hi All, Here's a pic of the "Dual A/B pump" setup: This is the dual pump assembly and hot-sreak solenoid "mock-up" which sits on the floor pan just behind the seat. When I'm certain it works nicely I'll clean up all the plumbing and make it look pretty..There's still some connectors and fittings I've not received yet to finish things off. I've also fitted a "pressure tap" in the hot streak line so I can keep tabs on it. I've wired the H/S pump and H/S solenoid to activate together via a 12v 30a relay. The A/B pump is activated separately via another relay which John had already fitted in the system. Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
Thats a fine lookin' bracket
Heh heh , a rather serious "horsepower" setup that should impress the "punters" at the car show , GT6041 turbo and a coupla 044s to feed her , they'll love it :-)
Cheers John

Actually...there's three pumps feeding her at the moment, twin 044's for the A/B-H/S.. plus the engine pump....with a fourth to come soon..! Yeah...I believe the 044 pumps are good for ~500+hp each... Cheers, Smithy.

LOL......Forgot about the "little" pump feeding the combustor :-(

LOL......Forgot about the "little" pump feeding the combustor :-( It ain't so little.....feeds the 6041 nicely...with plenty to spare as well.. I'll use a similar pump for the H/S when it arrives, then transfer the second 044 pump to parallel the first in the A/B system.....geeze, it'll need another battery to run everything....might have to rig up an alternator to run off one of the wheels... Cheers, Smithy.

Hi John, Well.....the hot-streak works...and the A/B works...so smiles all round The A/B definitely needs more fuel as I was only getting a small-ish flame out the back @ idle. Hopefully the dual 044 pumps will supply enough....also hoping the new hot streak pump and fittings will turn up soon. The hot-streak also appears to be able to light off the A/B at pretty much any rpm/P2 as well, the flame holder is indeed doing it's job although I did note a few "flutters", methinks the 400ft/sec speed is very close to the mark or possibly exceeded. I gave the hot-streak a couple of quick hits without the A/B and there's a nice feather of flame out the end of the pipe....ideal. Unfortunately I have no video of the test run, but my friend may have some on his Go-Pro....hopefully he has.. Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
Ah , thats excellent news about the hot streak :-)
Could the "flutters" be a caused by a lean mixture ??
Cheers John

Hi Smithy Ah , thats excellent news about the hot streak :-) Could the "flutters" be a caused by a lean mixture ?? Cheers John You could well be right about the lean flutters, we'll soon find out I suspect.. I'm only seeing ~1-1.5m of flame at 5psi P2. My little 1/4 scale has well over 3m as you've seen. The flutters only seem to occur above ~12-15psi P2. The dedicated H/S pump is due here in the next week or two, it's not as big as the 044 pump capacity/pressure wise but the H/S doesn't need it, as you're well aware it only needs to overcome the ~35psi P2 combustor pressure, the pump is capable of 4bar (59psi) @ 130l/h, possibly similar to the engine fuel pump you used. I think the 1.00mm hot streak orifice is on the money too. Yesterday I also gave her a couple of shots @ 25psi P2, a nice pop and a solid hit..... and then @ 35psi P2 and she nearly jumped the wheel chocks , was sliding along the ground a few inches too, I had a friend holding the brakes on for me whilst I was fiddling with the controls. She's certainly got some extra punch . I wish you were there John, would certainly have put a silly grin on your head....I sure as hell had one . On a side note, I need to source a new "V" band clamp for the outer combustor case, the old one is not well, one of the spot welds holding the clamp together has broken and the strap itself is split under the weld, I suspect I may have over tightened it during one of my modification sessions, didn't notice it until I was loading her back into the van yesterday. Do you know where I might be able to source one? I think it's ~9" diameter. All in all, a good days testing/running..... The "Green Beast" lives. Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
Heh heh , yep, I'd be grinnin' :-)
The V band is a common Garrett turbo compressor scroll band from their truck sized units, you should be able to get one from Garrett at Chipping Norton , 14 Alfred Road....I'll PM you some details of my contact.
All good :-)
Cheers John

Sounds like I'm going to have to come and have another play! Most certainly Andrew, you'll be more than welcome. Will be a few weeks until I run it again though as I have to wait till some new parts arrive and I can source a new V band for the outer combustion case. Then I'll get all the plumbing and wiring sorted. Yesterday she started the same as it did when you were helping me out, just a pop as the propane ignited and an uneventful run up to idle @ 4.5-5psi P2, EGT ~440-460C...as it should be, I'm seeing ~650-675c peaks during run up to idle, as long as I keep an eye on the temps and adjust the fuel flow during spool-up to suit... I'm more than happy with that. The only difference this time was that the A/B and hot streak actually worked .....although it was pumping plenty of white kero smoke when you were present....it just isn't enough for a decent flame show....the little dragster has heaps more flames..! When I do car shows with it...it's the big flames the paying punters like to see..! I can always adjust the A/B flows down via an inline valve for the best thrust when required....that's the easy part. I can't complain though, progress is happening in the right direction and I'm not hurting anything.....that's always a bonus..! Kudos to John for a nicely running and strong engine.... Cheers, Smithy.

it should be able to dispose of a very large amount of kero with all those pumps running

Huge Thanks to John for shooting me a spare V-band for the outer combustion case on the 6041 .....it cleaned up nicely and fits like it has always been there. Things are coming together nicely now....all the parts I've ordered are slowly dribbling in.....should be smiles all round in a week or two...am expecting a decent amount of fire from the Beast..! Cheers, Smithy.

Hi All, My new hot-streak pump and a few fittings/check valves have just arrived....just in time for me to set about fitting everything to the "Beast" prior to this coming weekend. I have a car show this weekend so it'll give me an opportunity to see if the new A/B and H/S systems are working nicely.
So...this weekend should see the "Beast" running with four....yes four, (count 'em)....fuel pumps, two high flow/high pressure Bosch 044's to supply the A/B, one smaller 130L/H @4 bar for the hot-streak and a similar unit supplying the engine itself....should be enough I think..!
John and I crunched the numbers some time ago and we think the 6041 powered "Beast" should be good for well over 200lbs thrust wet....hopefully we're close to right..
Cheers, Smithy.
