Hi Mark
LOL , a bit "lightweight" by your standards , only 2 mm for the front and back ends with 1.2 mm 304 sheeting for the inner and outer walls .
1.2 mm is fairly easy to weld unlike the 0.8 mm I used in the 10/98 .
Just gotta get this bottle of argon.
Cheers John

Hi Guys Got the TIG going at last and have been busy Welding the NGV vanes into the "front" wall of the assembly Flametube inner walls welded to front wall , alignment made easy with the wooden jig Ngv front wall with vanes welded in and vane heights turned down to "design", and ready to be welded to the rear wall and exhaust stub . Cheers John

Hi Mark
Welder OK , operator crap .
Hopefully I'll get the two sides welded together this morning, then one of the more complex bits is finished .
Cheers John

Hi John,
I know it's a bit off topic. But if you don't mind me asking, where do you get gas from?
Thanks, Rex

Hi Anders Yep , TIG is great , I just wish I had your skill level :-) Cheers John Pppffftttt...yours is great compared to mine.....Mine looks like bird shite dropped from 1000ft...! Am doing a lot of thin stainless lately, (0.010") I'm finding very difficult to get the correct amperage without blowing holes in stuff Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
LOL.............0.010" , it'd be full of holes with my unsteady hand , even my 0.050" stuff suffers .
What are you doing with such thin material ??
Cheers John

Hi Smithy LOL.............0.010" , it'd be full of holes with my unsteady hand , even my 0.050" stuff suffers . What are you doing with such thin material ?? Cheers John I'm just doing a little SS fabrication for a local friend, nothing turbine related though. Am almost out of Argon too, need to get a refill..! I've only got a cheap-ish TIG welder, (200a), but it seems to work fine for all my needs. The tailpipe of my little dragster is suffering badly and has several cracks, it's ~0.040" 304 and my TIG seems to handle it fine....it's me who is the detrimental factor ...I'm getting better though. A new pipe is on the way though.....I use a 3" catalytic converter similar to this.: www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-INCH-100-CELL-CPSI-CPI-METAL-CORE-RACE-CAT-CONVERTER-STAINLESS-BODY-/151833532852?hash=item2359fbd9b4:g:pswAAOSwl9BWG4yAThen I just punch the "cat" out and I have a near perfectly sized pipe for my little car..! Did a little welding work to the Go-Kart A/B....after Andy's help, I fitted a new gutter type flame holder made from an old C20B #1 Nozzle shield. Had to do a bit of bending/folding and welding to get it how I wanted, now she lights off very nicely indeed. I might need to pull the "fuel control" apart soon too as I have a slight leak/weep from the plunger, nothing drastic though, just annoying. Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
I think theres a cup seal in the top of the fuel control , the plunger isn't the smoothest :-(
Practice make perfect with the TIG ............LOL, I should be getting my hand in by the time I finish this engine :-)
Cheers John

Progress on the flametube All jigged up and time to tack weld the outer wall in place A look inside the flametube , the NGV structure doesn't look as "nice" as it should , I ran into unexpected problems , but it'll work OK Flametube and NGV seems to fit on the engine . Cheers John
