Hi John, Started cleaning up the saddle and remove the 2 snap screws which was easy and clean up some other parts. The apron is back together just got to make some new oil wicks, bought 20L of Sheel Tellus 15 oil for the Kopp variator it holds 1.8L they only sell it in 20 liter drums And the manual has arrive whoo hoo only took 5 weeks, so got some reading to do. Cheers, Mark.

I was going to fit the apron back onto the lathe, when i decided to put oil in the apron and test out the two oil pumps. The push type oil pump is working but the hand wheel pump was not pumping oil into the small oil reservoir, so i drain the oil out and remove the bottom plate and got the pump out the plunger was stuck. Pulled it apart as you can see a part of the spring has broken off, so have to shop a heavy gage spring. Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark
LOL, all you can say is , its been pumped a lot of times to break a spring :-)
Can't be much more for you to pull apart .
Cheers John

Hi John, Hehehe yeah looks that way. Had a good read of the manual she's a sophisticated machine that was built in the 60s. I won't pull anymore things apart from the lathe unless it needs to be. Been researching my options for three phase power. Had a chat with Andre and he said why not ask to have a three phase line installed to the meter box at the house, so have filled out application form. Was talking to the power supplier there maybe a small charge for the installation of the line, but the real cost will be for a sparky to run the line to the shed.
Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark
LOL , theres always an expense :-( but sounds like the way to go , especially as 3 phase machines are the norm in the sizes you want to play with .

you can use a VFD with single phase input, which will give you a nice variable speed control - but you'll ideally need a motor wound for 220v 3 phase which is not that common, especially in larger sizes.

Cheers John Hi John, Yeah it will a lot easier and if i get a decent milling machine I'll have three phase power ready to go I have three phase power at my house for the floor heating, but only have a single carport Cheers, Mark.

Yeah been looking at the VFDs and rotary phase converters which are not cheap and for the VFDs i don't think they will work on this lathe as it has a three phase oil pump for the gearbox and spindle shafts and i don't need speed control as the lathe has speed variator, then there is other issues to deal with as well. Cheers, Mark.

I manage to find a comp spring for the oil pump. Did a test all good resealed the bottom plate on the apron and attach the apron onto the lathe. Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark
I'm rather amazed how complicated your lathe is , a nice piece of engineering :-)
