Cheers smithy, yeah, I'm pretty happy with the looks of the flame, being up high and very uniform, I can only assume given how it starts I won't have those decent bangs/pops on start-up like the old set up.
As for changing over to liquid fuels what are my options in regards to best fuels to use and injection methods??
Cheers, Marc.

Little bit of an update, only looks like a small amount of work, but i can assure you it was near making me pull my hair out, if only i put the inlet between the primary and secondary.... thanks for the advice racket I tried to get some photos to show how much of a pain in the ass it is to make it all blend with the ridiculous bend required, but i don't think these do it any justice at all how tight it really is. Was/is a bitch to make, now, i've just got to weld it all up.....

Cheers smithy1 I've got a couple of machines, but for this i've been using a 170a DC inverter TIG, it's scratch start, nothing flash, can't do alloys, but for what i do, it gets the job done.

Not having much luck with the revised setup... Got it all welded up this afternoon and went to try it out, found out the turbo flange isn't as flat as I expected with it losing some air out of there between the cc and the turbo rear housing, and it just wouldn't self sustain. Even at 3-4psi, remove the leaf blower and it drops off instantly. Knocked up a gasket to try and remedy the situation and it somewhat helped, but for the turbine to self sustain, it's has to run at about 6-7 psi, whereas the old shitty setup could self sustain at about 1-2psi. Only ran it for about three minutes, noticed it gave a puff of smoke out the nozzle and just shut it down as a precaution. Didn't get a chance to measure the egt but just by eye I can tell the running temp is a tad lower with it running at around 6-7psi (the highest I've had it to date) and the rear wheel was just a dull glow, compared to before where it was bright orange. So far so good, gives me something to tinker with Cheers, Marc.

At least you know it'll come to life. A dull cherry glow usually means ~600-650C-ish which is a nice temp...anything higher and the turbine gets a definite lighter orange colour glow to it...once that orange starts to get into the white spectrum it's time to call it quits..!....or run like crazy... Well done.....would you believe ~85% of people who attempt this sort of thing fail miserably....and since you've done your homework it actually runs..very cool indeed. We might need some numbers from you to help diagnose, P2, EGT etc...I'm sure between all the knowledgeable people on here we can at least help... Cheers, Smithy.

Yeah, it'll come to life, and it doesn't have that "pop" on start up like it used to from over fuelling then igniting it all in one big bang, it's alot smoother start up. I'll be brutally honesty Smithy, i haven't done a tonne of homework, i think its more 10% class, and 90% arse, just lucky i guess. Will look to setting up a gauge for P2 and will get the hole put in the nozzle for the probe to check that egt and report back, see how we fair Appreciate the support.

Haha, no no no, I'm not getting all emo about it, it's just my way of saying it was more good luck, rather than good management.

Hey Marc,
Any news on your beast..? We've not heard from you of late.
I've got a car show to do this coming Sunday out at Luddenham....would be good if you could pop out, you'll finally get to see the "Black Beast" running in person. Will have the little jet dragster out for a play.... and my new Kingtech K45G, it's a sexy little engine, just 3" in diameter and has 4.5-5kg of thrust..! No A/B on this one yet though.
Cheers, Smithy.

Smithy, How's things mate? Yeah i've been stretching myself pretty thin the past 6 months or so, between, family, doing some BBQ competitions, small odd jobs in the garage, i've barely found time to get it out and have a play, oh and i finally took delivery of this.... So yeah, all work, no play makes marc, something, something, something. So, sorry for the delayed reply, just go, go, go. But i think i found the issue as to why i had the lack lustre results at the intial test run on the new CC setup...... I didn't even think to check how much, or little in this case, gas i had in the bottle. Rookie mistake haha. I've got some threads to catch up on, next stop is to check outthe green machine Smithy, i'm sure it's kicking goals now

Hi Marc Yep , the Yahoo Group still exists though theres very little activity these days compared to just a few years ago when there'd be 20 emails a day , the large number of YouTube vids on how to build a turbine engine virtually killed off the Yahoo Group , the info in its Files can be found here groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/DIYGasTurbines/files , I've tried to steal back my contributions to the Files but can't seem to be able to do it , if anyone can suggest how we could , it'd be appreciated as the info would be handy here on JATO . Metallic shrapnel doesn't sound good :-( You could "clip" your turbine exducer to increase its flow potential . Cheers John Are these files over here now ? Or do I have to wait for the ok from the yahoo group ? interesting thread and lots learnt already cheers
