Hi Guys, Tried a test run today on my rebuilt turbine just using starting gas from a small container. It seemed promising with combustion audible, and a increase in RPM. Such a small bottle of camping fuel isn't going to get it to self sustain, not YouTube worthy of a video, yet. N.G.V. kits are also coming along, profiling the turbine wheels now Regards Jeff

Hi Guys, Well, she's back together and ready for it's first run in 10 years. Turbine blade tip clearance is .011" More progress was made on the N.G.V. kits. The inner ring was marked with Dykem layout fluid and the blade slots were scribed. Regards Jeff

Hi Koreanmax,
Best bet would be to find a copy of a book, published by Thomas Kamps regarding homebuilt jet engines. It contains all the mathematics that are required to get all of the angles required to get a small gas turbine to work. The company that published the book (Traplet) went out of business, so there are no new copies of the book. I can supply any necessary angles if you can't find a used copy of the book.
Regards
Jeff

Hi Guys, I'm making progress on rebuilding my first turbine. Turns out, it didn't need for me to remake as many parts as I thought. Basically just the turbine wheel, a fitting for initial starting gas, new magnesium engine mounts, reworking the diffusor blades as the JB weld bond broke (I used aluminum diffusor blades this time) and reworked oil line. Still faced with the dilemma of balancing the turbine wheel,,,ugh. On a side note, I'll soon be offering N.G.V. short kits+ turbine wheel blanks for builders who are thinking of making a large (talking R/C, not the behemoths Anders and Racket make) turbines, for sale in the Trade Post section. Stay tuned. I'll also have smaller Schreckling turbine disc, a smaller Kamps type wheel and shaft tunnel. Regards Jeff Pittel

Hi Anders,
It won't take much thrust to move an iceboat along at a good clip. There is virtually zero resistance as long as your aft runners are perfectly parallel. The only thing with less resistance might be a magnetic train.
Mother Nature hasn't co-operated with temps to make much ice here in Michigan.

Hi,
Nice machine. The machine shop I work at doesn't have anything that new.
FANUC controller?
I'm with John, I don't know G code, but I think I can find the G spot,,,LOL.

Hi Darren,
Nice work, you should be proud.
Any future plans for this engine?

Hi Joe, I think your name is Joe, not 100% sure. Have you thought of making a turbine wheel and NGV? A cast set in the size you're looking for has got to cost quite a bit. Money for me is kind of tight since AT&T surplused me and I'm making about 1/3 the salary now (the money tree I had in my backyard shriveled up and died,,,LOL). Here is a pic of the new wheel for my old build. Regards Jeff

Hi John,
Other than the balls realigning themselves to the small gap in-between them is my only idea.
I don't see any previous balancing grinding marks on the wheel, are there any?

Hi,
I think he travels quite a bit and he is trying to establish a U.S. distributor/repair center. It may take some time due to the holidays, but he has replied.

Hi Azwood,
I hear you, my wife literally runs out of the house with cellphone in hand. Not sure if she's about to call 911, the fire department or the police to have her crazy husband arrested,,,LOL.

Hi Guys, I've decided to get my very first serious Kamps build running again. It will require making a new turbine, reworking the compressor diffusor and possibly a new shaft, but it's much less work than building from scratch. Here are a few pics of the turbine wheel after taking it into work and checking the blade angles on a comparator. The angles were from 27 degrees to 31 degrees, not too bad from just using a sheet aluminum angle set to 30 degrees. Trying to take homebuilding to the next level,,,LOL. Regards Jeff

Hi,
If my memory serves me correctly, the guy in the thread got a NGV from Yili that had a small dent in it. All pictures from old threads are long gone, so it's hard to say.
If you do deal with Yili, I'd get detailed pictures of the product first before they ship it.

Hi,
Check out the "Small Aircraft turboprop build - potential heat exchanger" thread.
From 2017, so it's not that old. Jetbeetle sells a 90mm NGV and wheel and at least Horace replies to emails.

Hi Richard,
That balancer is similar to my Jet Joe unit. The problem is, it doesn't stop the rotor in the exact position of the heavy side, so it's still a hit or miss affair.
Maybe I just don't have enough patience to work it.

Jeff
