Hiya. I'm looking for a compact turbine, somewhere in the area of around Width:29.5 Height:25 Length:32 It can be a little wider and taller but not much. I'm looking for something in the area from around 100 to 200 hp, preferably around 125-150, but again I'm flexible. I'm looking for an engine with available manuals as well as an output shaft rpm of around 6000 for mount ability to a Volkswagen Transaxle. Any ideas?
Cheers!~John

Hi John
They're single shaft engines with terrible power curve for a land vehicle , but great for a constant speed pump/generator , they could be used but with a multispeed gearbox to keep the engine "in the power band" , whereas a two shaft engine with freepower turbine its torque/power curve means we only need a single speed gearbox , or massive torque with a multispeed unit .
I wouldn't use a single shaft engine in a vehicle, its bound to produce an unsatisfactory outcome , theres no power below 90% rpm
Cheers John

I dont know if youre going to find much within your size constraints. If you had about double the overall length to work with, you'd have a lot more options. I agree with John that you'd be better off lokking for something with a free turbine. Best of luck on your search!

I'd like to mate this to a 4 speed transmission. Apparently around 160hp and about 300ft lb of torque. I've seen that a turbines peaks its torque at high rpms, apparently with the old Chryslers there was a method of holding the brake (auto transmission) then revving the engine to its 100% before letting off, apparently bringing good torque and acceleration. Perhaps a launch control system could help?
Thanks ~John

Hi John LOL, "all the hard work done " .............why do guys trying to sell stuff always say that ;-) As for a "TON of torque" .......ha ha ha , nothing unless you're up above 5,000 rpm ......................the ad is full of shite . 160 HP at 6,000 rpm equates to 140 ft lbs of torque NOT 300 ft lbs Did you checkout the single shaft torque/power graph in the Link I provided in an earlier Email jetandturbineowners.proboards.com/thread/1260/turbine-torque. This is what would happen with this engine , you'd fire it up and it would immediately want to idle at 6,000 rpm , its APU design rpm , you might be able to fiddle with the fueling but you won't get idling down below ~2,500 rpm , and at that rpm you won't have any horsepower at all , certainly not a "TON of torque" ............check the graph . Upon lifting the clutch to put it in gear , you'll be needing ~4,000 rpm to get any sort of reasonable acceleration , gear changing will be a nightmare . DO NOT CONSIDER THIS ENGINE The Chrysler was a 2 shaft engine , exactly the same as us guys make/use ..................again check the graphs for the reason why land vehicles use 2 shaft engines . Cheers John

If you can make it a little bit bigger you should consider the 502 (270-330hp @ ~6000rpm output) or 553 (490hp @ 4200rpm output). They are around 1000mm long and 600mm wide and around 100kg. In Sweden you can get a 553 for arund 3000-5000$ (Im looking for one to) A hotrod with a 553 www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJK1voiBq-YDyno run
(I have manuals for 502 and 553 if you want)

A Boeing 502 then. I would like a manual for that specific engine. I'll check it out Thanks!

The 502's rpm output is a little low for my use. Any other 2 shaft turbines with a 6000rpm output?
Thanks ~Johm

Thanks ~Johm Hi John, The Rolls-Royce Gem helicopter engine has a 6000rpm output shaft speed, 1200hp though!! Bugatti Veyron territory!!! Video of one in a slingshot dragster below. The tyres are squeaking the full length of the strip, right on the edge of traction. Enjoy, Richard S.
