The secret to designing a turbine wheel....

Ok.....so I'm not an expert on fluid dynamics or anything of the sort, but if I wanted to design a turbine wheel, where would I start.

I know....we are talking about a lot.......

The turbine wheel would be cast Inconel if it ever comes to fruition.

I have the software, and a little brain power. The funds could be a problem. The main exercise here is the effort, and knowing what is involved.

The general mechanics I can handle, but the blade geometry and root to tip angle are somewhat elusive. I know there are some basic angles to be used with "model" sized turbines.

Is there any real proven design geometry used?

In the sizes we work with , something fairly basic is all thats needed , the scaling up of a standard micro engine wheel would be good enough.

Longer blades can be more efficient due to "less??" blade tip losses , but long blades need "twist" , whereas more conventional lengths can be "straight" .

Turb wheel design is a science in itself if wanting to be done correctly :-( ....................we need to err on the side of caution which will undoubtedly mean a less efficient design .

Having looked at both model wheels and full sized ones , the model ones ain't bad :-) ................they're often better than some older commercial wheels .
