National Geographic Channel’s new show, Mad Scientist will start on Oct 5th at 10 pm. We all need to support this show! They’ve been poking around our community and I personally know of 3 others that run in our circles who were approached by the producers. Many of us here know who RCDon is and now we get to check out his workshop and his stuff as he’s on the show! You will also see what appears to be my workshop, the place where I built everything including the van. I’ll post some pictures of what my shop usually looks like after the show airs. Everything that’s in there now was in a pile behind the house. I don’t want you guys to think I’m some kind of neat freak…..
Here’s the show’s facebook page, lets show them a little appreciation for expressing interest in what we do and help then get the word out. If this show takes off, there’s a good chance they’ll come back for more of us J

About the show- The host John basically finds people like us who like to make things. They come and check out your stuff and then try to get you to do something crazy. What’s important here is what you build isn’t that important, and if it works it’s not that important. It’s all about how our minds go from concept to prototype, that’s exactly what they’re looking for. This is what I like best about the show, it’s all about inventing and the thought process and solving whatever problems that come up during the design/build/test phases. They want to see what makes us tick. This isn’t going to be one of those shows where the nuts and bolts take a back seat to the drama (like that show where the farther and son build motorcycles). I watch these shows to see other creative people doing their thing, no time for drama for me! And the science is true- while us backyard inventors might not know the latest tech and terminology, what you see on the show is exactly what happened. Sure, they goof around and have fun but there will be no unexplainable magical science that appears out of nowhere. The host John Bowler and the producer Matt Bennett are both pretty technical and really easy to work with. Matt’s been doing his thing for a long time, John is an old friend of Matt’s who took acting a long time ago, does high end custom wood work among other things and might be the next Mike Rowe.

If any of you get a chance to get on the show- DO IT. Just do whatever they want and worry about nothing. When they told me what the show was all about I decided to just give it a shot and have a good time. These guys were experts and I figured the best thing I could do was let them do their job. When they arrived I gave them a tour of the house and my stuff and basically told them we’re free to do whatever we want to whatever’s on the property but modifying the wife, kids and some of the pets was off limits. That was the best thing I did. They acted like you would expect guests to act in your home at all times. It was really like hanging out in my garage with my friends building crap and getting video of it for youtube….. except they had really nice cameras!
My episode is slated for Oct 12.
Everyone get the word out! Post this on all the tech forums! Put it up on your facebook page!
We must have every TV and DVR tuned to this program that we can get our hands on!
If it thrives, It will need more of us.
