Krug has a brainstorm! I need to find a popular street legal motorcycle with many tightly spaced gears and a clutch that can be slipped and worked without problems. I'm sending about 100 hp through it. about 100 hp, street legal, popular, has many gears and a stout clutch? Any issues with the engine itself don't matter, it's going in the trash. something that sells cheap because the engine is crap would be ideal

I have a old drag bike frame with a one piece fibreglass fairing I know it's not street legal but a great frame to use as it has lots of room for all the components you need as you can on my bike build room runs out fast

Most motorcycles have the gearbox integral to the engine. You can cut the crankcase up and weld / bolt on cover plates but it's tricky to make it all work with the lubrication system etc. On the plus side, this style of bike usually has a wet multiplate clutch which can handle a lot of abuse. Any 600cc+ bike from the late 90's onwards will have something pretty strong, but there are a few bigger bikes that are often cheap. The clutch is on the gearbox shaft and is driven by a gear on the crank, so it's not easy to get drive into it once you remove the engine parts. Some bikes have a separate gearbox, but usually they have a dry clutch which might handle less abuse but is easier to change. The BMW K1200RS is a good example of this. The gearbox is longitudinally mounted and it has a shaft final drive. I have one on the bench if you need some photos. You can also get aftermarket Harley style gearboxes which could be adapted to basically any bike. edit: Just realised this thread was bumped by a spammer. Did anything happen with the bike plan? It's relevant to my current interests

I just haven't gotten around to it. My business is keeping me busy. I'll come across a motorcycle sooner or later......
