Hey guys! I'm a new member here, a highschool kid in Canada and I've always wanted to build a turbo jet since I saw colin furze's video on it.
I recently just picked up a cheap turbo (maXpeedingrods GT35 GT3582). Inducer Diameter: 61.5 mm
I have some questions about the combustor.
1. how thick should the inner and outer tube be. (gauge)
2. where should I drill my primary, secondary, and tertiary holes (how far down on the tube)
3. how far should my flame tube stick into the combustor. (propane source)
General Questions
4. Im guessing I should use stainless steel or steel in general. Can I weld stainless with flux core on a MiG welder with no gas?
5. where an I find solid information on how to build a combustor.
6. With the information below That I obtained from Furze's video on the math behind building a turbo jet should I be good?
7. are scrap yards friendly lol
8. Tips/ suggestions/ motivation.
Combustion Chamber
Diameter: The diameter of the flame tube is twice the diameter of the inducer
=123mm
=4.84inches
Length: The length of the flame tube is 6 times the diameter of the inducer
=369mm
14.5inches
Housing: 15mm gap. Add 30mm to the diameter of the flame tube
=153mm
=6inches
Flame Holes
Area of Inducer= πr^2
= (pi)(30.75mm)^2
=2970.572mm^2
30% The area of the inducer (intake) (26 holes (15-20)
=891.2mm^2
20% The area of the inducer (intake) (5 holes) (8-12)
=594.1mm^2
50% The area of the inducer (intake) (5 holes) (4-6)
=1485.3mm^2
All the area of the holes must equal the area of the inducer
Thank you guys I'm so excited to share my journey with you. all feedback and tips is very appreciated!!!
