Hello everyone, i am trying to understand the Garrett GTCP-100 engine.
I am doing a presentation for class, i am currently in MIAT to become a A&P tech.
The presentation part i am doing is on the Compressor section and on Airflow direction, engine characteristics, sound suppression, and any other special features it may have.
I am confused on the compressor type on these engines. is it a single stage centrifugal compressor with consist of an impeller or am i wrong?
I am i missing something?
I know it have two stages of the compressor section - is this centrifgual compressor for the first stage followed by the second stage single stage double sided impeller?
ANY HELP ON HOW THE COMPRESSOR SECTION FUNCTIONS WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPERICATED!
(What i have so far) The Garrett GTCP-100 is an auxiliary Power Unit (APU). The compressor section is located in the middle section.
Airflow direction:
-The plenum (Inlet) serves as the entry point for the air to begin the engine’s operation.
-Ambient air enters the engine through the screened compressor inlet plenum and is compressed by two stages of compressor section.
-Compressed air is sent to the turbine plenum, where a small portion may be diverted for pneumatic power uses.
-The remaining compressed air is diverted into the six combustion chambers
Engine characteristics:
- The compressor section features a single stage centrifugal compressor, it either has a single impeller or rotor.
Sound suppression:
- Incorporates many designs features to minimize noise levels produced by the compressor section. They are: Acoustic liners, Blade design and sound absorbing materials.
Other special Features:
- Apus has high compressor efficiency.
- Compact size
- Lightweight design
- Low power consumption
