Spotted this little bit circuitry, I wonder if it could be paired up with the a laser/sensor diode from a cheap laser tachometer and used as a remote gauge? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295938823176There's also inductive ones which could be wired up to a photo diode for a similar effect and work as a run time meter? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394924751143

Did a bit more reading on this part, it could definitely work for a budget friendly diy rpm gauge as much faster refresh than a hand held (3x a second vs 1x) and can be panel mounted, just needs to be hooked up to a suitable sensor such as the photoelectric module from a tachometer or a hall effect sensor. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295938823176

One problem with those is that won't display above 99,999 rpm and many turbos (specially smaller units ) go well above 100,000 rpm. I once considered using one of those with a divide by 10 circuits with I could have built but finally turned to a Garret turbo tachometer ... Way more expensive ..

True but if you're at the stage where you want a way to watch the rpm without holding a slow to refresh laser tachometer because you're going for every drop of power on a large diameter turbo spinning below 100k then these could work without the price of a garrett tachometer. Once I get my build running I might take the hit and buy one for a fiddle to confirm if it's viable for us builders
