Hi John! Look at this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPa-PykC9ZEIm sure it would work with propane , Possibly with diesel too if its misted finely enough. Its input voltage range makes it convenient but I dont know about its duty cycle . Can it work for a long enough period of time without burning like many HV generator do ? He says 300 watts at input. That's a lot of power for such a small device. Those transistors must be pushed to their limits. Also I ve noticed that people are always talking about high voltage They seem to think that the higher the voltage the better. In fact all you need is enough voltage to jump the gap. What makes a spark "hot" is the current. Just think of this : Static electricity can reach 5 to 15 Kv but do no big damage compared to what a spark from a 12 volts car battery can do. So If I was to use such a device I would connect it to a HV capacitor with an HV diode much in the same way Andy Morris does. The idea being to raise the current before discharging it in a spark. There's nothing like giving it a try..

Hi Richard
LOL...............I'll let others play with it, electronics aren't my thing , I was interested as to whether or not it might be useful for us guys compared to the small high voltage generators .
Good to know it has possibilities :-)
Thanks for the Link , nice long arc ;-)
Cheers John

Hi Richard
LOL.......that looks like something I've got sitting on my desk , it says 25Kv on the board , heh heh ...... its been sitting there for years, didn't know what it was for , I must have purchased it off Ebay but never used it , lotsa bits like that around here :-(
Cheers John

Hi Richard
LOL....There are moving boxes in my shed that haven't been opened for the nearly 12 years I've been here ...............heh heh , I might have a look once I "retire" ;-)
Cheers John

Yes Then you realize that life is just too short . Too many ideas too many projects Not enough time ..

a lot of these high frequency high voltage generators are good for making a long arc or cool plasma effects, but the spark won't have a lot of energy in it when used on a spark plug.
I found one of the best and easiest things was an electric ignitor for a stove. It makes a bunch of nice fat sparks. The one I used was mains powered, but there are low voltage ones too.

Replace the mini spark generators we use in the microwave capacitor bang box with one of those and you'd have similar performance to a commercial engine igniter box. The zvs driver and coil produces high voltage ac which is what most cold war era jet exciter use (charges up a capacitor before spark gap) instead of our diy ones that use the cheap Chinese pulsed high voltage dc generators
