Hi all any advice on building a test rig would be good. Any wiring info or operating instructions would also help. I would like to build it into a cart. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum! If you got some pics of the engine it would surely help to raise some interest, is it complete with a starting panel or is it an engine of unknown status?

Well not quite what i expected but thats what you get with shopping online and impulse purchase anyway. So its a starter ,so is it hydrazine powered or how does it work? Help Attachments:

Found some info and iv got a fuel/air starter it needs a fuel supply and compressed air and electrics for ignition, it doesnt have a compressor wheel. Now the question is how much air and at what pressure? and what fuel and what pressure? questions questions questions it may still be quite powerful if i use an airtank

Ok, lets start by figuring out exactly what you HAVE and what you need. Here are some questions to ask yourself: Does it have a spark source (spark plugs etc.)? Does it have or need a Fuel Management Unit (FMU)? Does it have an oil tank? And what kind of oil does it need? You said it needs an air starter. What RPM does it need to reach to support a smooth startup? What pressure does the fuel need to be at and what kind of fuel is the engine designed to run on (diesel, gas, other?) What are safe operating parameters for this engine with respects to the RPM and Temps? Does it already have a thermocouple installed and is it functioning properly? There are many more questions, but these should get you started. Just keep us up to date. I'd love to see it up and running

Hi
The info I have talks about 330psi air being supplied from 1300 cubic inch bottles at 3,000 psi , the starter only operates for ~4 seconds at a time and there is enough air for ~3 starts .
Fuel is supplied from onboard systems which top up an accumulator that is discharged into the combustor when the air is admited , the mix being ignited by the plug .

It seems to have inbuilt ignition with a small 4 pin connector (a solenoid valve and a pressure switch and spark plug with what looks like a speed sensor on gearbox and other electrical units that i am unsure about these all connect through a control box with the 4 pin connector)
As for fuel there looks like a feed and return but dont know which is which.
Wow thats a lot of air pressure! Does anyone have a manual? or any technical docs for this it is model FAS450/9

Hi
Might pay to get into the makers Site and see if theres any info there , otherwise it'll be a case of trying to figure it out as best as can , I don't even know if the info I have is for your starter, but its all I have :-(
Try blowing some air through it to see if things turn , you'll be needing a fair quantity of air if at 100 psi .
Cheers John

Hi anyone any ideas which aircraft were fitted with Hamilton Standard Fuel Air starters? I have found very little info online .I have emailed the maker but no joy yet. What you say Racket sounds about right there is what looks like an accumulator built in and a pressure switch 250-350 psi.
Thanks folks
