Hey All,
Well i thought i would finally get around to putting my build up here instead of just lurking and reading
Managed to find a turbo from a guy at work. Nothing special, an old Schweitzer turbo that was originally off a Ford 7000 tractor. Fairly small as it has a 40.6mm compressor inducer, but it will do the job.
Didnt come with any flanges so i needed to make a couple:
Managed to find a stainless extinguisher for the oil tank, little big but should keep things a little cooler
Took a bit of work to get the combustion chamber outlet to merge with the turbine inlet flange, but nothing an oxy and a 1.5lb hammer cant fix
Actually come up better that i hoped.
Its pretty handy having access to a profile cutter at work ;D
Tacked and all bolted up, just to make sure everything fits
Mounted on the turbo. Size of the chamber may be a little on the overkill side
Combustion chamber inlet tacked into position (also cut the chamber outlet down a little). Used the die grinder to clean the hole up and make the pipe fit. Im so glad i wont need to use the die grinder anymore, im still picking burrs out of my skin.....
Hmm 150NB pipe, 8mm plate, all fully welded, think it has a safety factor of 1000 haha
But isn't the key to being an engineer to over engineer everything
Drilling 50+ holes was not the most enjoyable task of the project
(4mm for the primary, 6mm secondary, and 11mm for the tertiary)
Sitting nicely in the top cover.
So thats as far as i have made it so far. Big thanks to John for his help along the way ;D
Got most of the parts to finish it off, just need to get some time to do it.
First question for the thread, does anyone know where i can get a simple and cheap tacho from? Seen some of the posts on diy, but they are to build your own from scratch. And seen my electronic skills are lacking, i would rather buy one pre-made
