As many of you will know from my previous posts I was getting very frustrated at the lack of progress I was making with the palouste engine, mainly problems removing the front case air intake, which carries the front bearing. Thanks to an email last night from Paul at terrafirma jets, www.terrafirmajets.co.uk/index.htm I was able to remove the splined nut from the end of the mainshaft, by using the accessory drive shaft as a tool for unscrewing it. Progress is very rapid now and I will have the thing in pieces ready to be checked out and cleaned, and the front case is now separated ready for that to be modified cleaned and repainted.

Thank you, Yes Its a lovely compressor wheel, very low trim, the best of 1953 technology , the diffuser is sheet metal. The picture is the front bearing assembly and the accessory drive spline nut, that caused me all the trouble Attachments:

I think I have also sorted out the ignition problem, I could not obtain a torch igniter and the design on this site was not suitable for my turbine, so I have taken the idea from a pt6 turboprop engine and used 2 glow plugs. They seem to work very well in a test situation lighting an afterburner supplied by my leaf blower, and it fired up my homemade jet engine ok. It will also save some weight as I will not need to carry a ht ignition box or any extra fuel hosing or solenoid for a torch. Weight is critical for my build as I want to get as close as a 1:1 thrust to weight ratio Attachments:

Just waiting now for a delivery, I have a diffuser cone and a bifurbricated exhaust duct arriving today, which will give me the overall engine length, and I will be able to calculate how long a frame to make for the motorcycle.
