Hi everybody, finally got my Viper running, it seemed to have a bit of a hot streak when it started though, so i decided to strip down to check for damage to any of the vaporiser tubes and also to look at the injectors. Anyway, once i removed the rear section i discovered that the NGVs are badly cracked. (Photo Below)A few hung starts i would imagine. I have been advised it would be dangerous to run the engine in case the NGVs start to break up and hit the turbine, so i desperately need a replacement set of vanes. If anyone can help i would really appreciate it. I am told that the vanes on the 200, 300, 500 series Vipers are the same. Not the 100 series though, those had individual vanes. Please let me know if you have any, or know where i might source some. I am happy to pay international postage if need be. cheers Perry

Is this the rear stator assembly, behind the exhaust turbine?

I see it's like your 105 Ernie where we could slip the stationary blades out but his I guess are one piece.

Hi, yes it is the rear stator assembly. The 100 series had individual blades, whereas all the later models are apparently the same as mine, 10 individual segments, each containing 6 blades. I have since been advised that this level of deterioration is still within serviceable limits as defined by RR, but i would still be happier with a good set in the engine.

That is still within limits?! Looks like it was just about to stuff chunks of NGV through the turbine.
Would be worried about over temp on the turbine blades too. Looks similar to the damage my M701c-500 has from streaking combustion chambers, not good.
I have a source for most Viper 535 bits, but they are serviceable so may be more than you wanted to spend? Let me know if that would help.

i intend to check the evap tubes when i remove the turbine, but no point in going to the trouble of disturbing the turbine until i am sure i can source some replacement NGVs. Cursorkeys: Serviceable ones may be too expensive, but i would like to get a price anyway, so yes please, if you could let me the contact or find out a price for me i would appreciate it.
thanks

Hey Perry,
you have a PM with the contact. Might be the same chap Andy knows as he has engines for sale as well as parts.
I would post details in the thread but there are at least two rather predatory companies in the UK who are buying all engines up as fast as possible and then taking the piss on the resale prices. It's wrecking the hobby...
