I am thinking about building a jet engine with a vt-50 turbo (subject to change) but my main problem is where do you guys find a power turbine if i wanted to use the engine to power a go-kart eventually. I saw on guy had used a JFS-100-13a (built by Garrett i believe) to power his kart around but i cant seem to find any-thing.
Thanks

Perhaps a 3rd stage Allison C20 turbine wheel would be in the ballpark? Welcome to the forum by the way sr71!

Hi SR71 Maybe checkout my 2 shaft kart build thread in the DIY section for ideas jetandturbineowners.proboards.com/thread/40/2-shaft-turbine-kart-build. It used a "scrap" VT50 sized turbine wheel for the freepower , this was undersized for the gas flow exiting the TV84 turbo so I simply dumped a proportion out through a suitably sized jet nozzle . As it only used karting chain and sprockets , no gearbox, the horsepower and rpm were limited by the chains capacity. Cheers John

Hi sr71, If you are going to use the JFS free power gearbox be prepare to pay a lot of money for one, you can ask Tim Akron www.akronturbinegroup.com/contact/ he may have some or maybe one of these on e bay 261272602016 Cheers, Mark.

Thanks for the replies/suggestions. I have been away from the computer for a couple of days so thats why I havev't been around. My cousin and I got pumped about the idea a while back and now we are researching it out to see if we can get something going over winter.
And for a turbo what do you guys recommend. Im not excatly sure what to look for. I like going fast!!!
And for the turbine wheel I can maybe get my cousin to work on his boss. He works at a machine shop so maybe they can get something worked out!?!?!
I will have to see what i can come up with. Thanks, Braden

I did look at it just a little bit and I want to look at it a bit more yet. From what I see he has spent a lot of money but it looks really nice.
Thanks, Braden

Hi Brandon
LOL.............if we want to play with turbines, we need to spend money unfortunately , especially if we want then to perform to their potential , its possible to fit a rudimentary combustor on a wrecking yard turbo and make some noise without spending much , but performance never comes cheap :-(
Cheers John

Second that, my turboshaft bike build has probably passed 10.000 euro by now and I still haven´t driven it a single yard...

Hi Guys.... yep these one off projects cost when you are building them to a high standard, think my last kart Cost best part of £4000,00 GBP but then there is the thousands spent on mark one and two kart, time and money well spent learning what works and dont work, what to spend money on and what you can make for your self. Thanks to John at least i dont have the cost of the engine for the bike, and got freepower unit at good price, mates rates :-) but still spent best part of £2000,00 GBP and still frame etc to pay for. But its not all about the money, you could very easily make some thing to a very good standard on a smaller budget, finding people that like what you are doing, that want to help, always look for a deal when your buying. Asking members whats worked for them and not re-inventing the wheel

HA HA... I believe you guys for some reason :-)I was meaning more in down the line of his nice starters, alternaters, and all that nice stuff. But that doesn't matter. I am still not sure that I will be able to do it.. But I sure would like to.
I've kinda got my work cut out for me till the end of October so that's why I'm not gettin much done in the way of research. So we will keep dreaming till then.
