Hi guys, This weekend I bought an other engine, a David Budworth gas turbine:-) It looks similar to the one (or is the one) mentioned on www.gasturbine.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/budworth.htmDoes anybody have information (i.e. drawings, manual or specs) on this little engine. The engine is turning freely but looks a bit tired. Lots of bend pipework and superficial corrosion. It's gonna be a nice project..and I'll hope that some of you can help me. Thanks in advance, Rob

A Napier Gazelle and now a Budworth Puffin, some seriously rare engines being acquired! Have you asked Ian yet? He did own that Puffin in the pictures so he might still have some info. The other bet might be Everett Aero here in the UK as Dick had a Puffin (in v.poor condition) for sale either last year or the year before. They might have some info. I have heard from various people that some of the engineering in the various Budworth engines was a bit suspect and they had a reputation for being 'grumpy'. Best not to stand in the plane of rotation

OK great, thanks for the information. I started the disassabling of the engine, outside looks terrible, but the inside looks OK so far. Needs a lot of TLC :-) to get this engine running again.

Turbojer here. Recently joined. I have had an old Budworth (or Buttworth) for a few years. I have ran it a few times using propane. They have a mechanical tach and a very welcome 12 volt starter. It is just a gas producer as whatever went behind it is no longer there. I think Ian has some info. I'll look through my files as he may have sent me some diagrams or history. Oil system consists of several spray jets squirting on the accessory drive gears, then dripping down into a collector pan (in my case a gallon tin can)

Hi there, Back again regarding my Budworth engine. The disassembly has been completed, nearly all parts where there. One thing is missing...the original oil pump. Where it was situated there is bolted on a metal plate (see image with plate removed) I would really like to get the engine back to it's original state. Can anyone help me getting some more info about the oil pump (specs, brand,..) The pump looks like the following image, the one shown is the fuelpump. When the engine is running the rpm of the pump will be aprox 1800rm and the pressure should be around 30PSI. Looking foreward hearing from you guys. kind regards Rob

Hi John, Please let me know if you wanna see any specific parts... The parts used for this little monster are very basic, mostly untidy casting and machining turbine shaft

Hi Rob
Could you post some more pics and info on the oil jet lubrication please , oil jet hole sizes and how they're orientated to squirt the lube to specific spots .
Cheers John

Hi John, The oil pump (which is missing) pumps oil to a header, from the header it flows to 5 point. - strart gearbox (2x spray nozzle) The oil lubs the brass bushes and the gears - reduction gears (3x normal, 1x spray nozzle) 'normal' flow through each axle and spray between the gears of the worm drive - PTO shaft (restricted flow nozzle) - Turbine and compressor bearingsturbine bearing is sprayed separately, compressor bearing gets oil from the nozzle shown - accessories gearbox (1x spray nozzle) oil is sprayed between the gears of the governer and fuelpump. All the nozzles seem to have the same diameter, it's aprox. 1mm. I can measure the exact diameter if you would like The amount of bearings is kept to a minimum, both gear boxes (starter and acc.) have brass like bushes

Thanks Rob , its a good example for us DIY'ers to look at as its got basic construction , nothing too fancy that we couldn't try to copy :-)
Cheers John
