I´ve been thinking about the oil return line and have decided to add a second 10mm return line for safetys sake, easier to do it now when the engine is taken apart than late when everything is torqued down for running. I also have a clearer view of the space available now that the combustor is made, so the oil return will be much better after I´ve rebuilt it.

Hi Anders
Yeh , much easier now :-)
Our engines have an "organic" dimension to them , they grow in different directions with time , its not always easy to see the completed engine at the start of a build , but once the main components are in place , there always seems to be obvious "improvements??" that can be made , so obvious that I often wonder why I didn't see them in the first place , but heh , thats R&D . .................the Mk2 version can incorporate them :-)
I know theres a number of things with the 10/98 that I'd change .
Cheers John

Indeed, that is why I have named the engine JohanssonUnit-01. 98 possible rebuilds/upgrades left! I talked with the coating guy just now and it is a piece of cake according to him to coat my NGV, I can freely chose which surfaces I want coating on and it will handle 1000°C without a problem. It can take a hammer blow but gets damaged from scratching quite easily so I will have to be careful with the parts once coated. Aprox. one week will it take for him to coat it and send it back to me so I won´t have to wait the whole summer to assemble the engine either, great news!

JU-01 but add a "R" to the end "JU-01R" that way we can blame Racket on any missed calculations. I must get new batteries for my solar powered calc, my figures never match his.
The sun in Australia must be hotter.

Hi Ernie
LOL........ my trusty old Sharp EL-500 calculator has been going for 32 years now , bought in it 1979 when I started my commercial pilots course , its gone through a lotta batteries over the intervening years :-))
No sun here at the moment :-( .....................mountain mist and drizzly rain for the past couple of weeks , the solar powered calculator I have in the shed died years ago from from lack of Vitamin D ;-)

Hi Anders
I'm going to be very interested in how that coating performs , and how accurately it can be applied ........................LOL, does it come in different colours ??

According to him it can be very accurately applied, he told me to mask off the areas where it shouldn´t be any coating with tape before I send the parts to him.
Pricing was very reasonable as well, he charges 50 euro for coating a turbo housing so I guess that the NGV shouldn´t cost much more than that either.

Thanks guys, it feels better with a slightly oversized return line than the opposite. I´ll have to drill the bolt heads and wire lock them before any starting attempt, dropping one of the bolts into the turbine will cause mayhem and destruction...

I love mayhem and destruction! But not on something that wasn't designed from the start specifically for mayhem and destruction. On another note, I think I finally fixed a pesky fuel leak on the Nimbus. Now I can go whip Ernie's ass some more at the drag strip.
