I don't know if you noticed..... The sled is being TOWED by 2 f-100-100 engines with the the tail feathers closed. (Max POWER). By the length of the cable being approx 20 ft at egt's exceeding 900 C. . I belive Chrispy Chris ( the Col. Sanders of Turbine chickens) would be the only person qualified with his Porky Pig Skin Graph... LOL...... ernie

I´ve managed to get some more work done in the workshop. The turbine wheel clearance has been opened up a bit, the lower frame tubes are connected to the steering head and the parts that will be sent away for coating are removed and bundled up. Enough clearance I hope. Fine adjustment of the frame tubes after bending them too much. Fitting the tubes. Finished, nothing is welded at this point since I might need to adjust something later. A closeup of the steering head. Pressing the compressor wheel off the shaft. Loaded and ready to go! Cheers!

Hi Anders
Bikes looking good :-)
How much turb clearance do yo have ??.............................the GT6041 has ~ 0.75 mm radial clearance on the exducer , I normally run ~0.6 mm on the TV94 wheels with their thinner shroud material that should expand quicker than the thick cast scroll housing .
Cheers John

Haven´t measured it lately, my goal was 0.6mm but as you know there was some misunderstandment regarding the radial clearance for the brass bearings so it might be a .10 or so larger to avoid turbine rubbing.
I´ll check it once I get the engine back together after the coating, just got off the phone with the coater and he is on vacation until the 15th so until then I have to keep myself busy some other way. (not a problem... ;D)
I´ve ordered a Yamaha XS1100 angle gear from a guy in the US, and hopefully the handlebars will arrive soon so I can continue working on the frame.

Hi Anders
Knowing how fast you work , that bike will be ready to accept the engine by the time the NGV gets back from the coaters :-)
Cheers John

Heh, I am not that fast even though my girlfriend might disagree... The rear of the frame will need some thinking before it is made, the unfortunate allignment with the drive chain and one of the frame tubes might prove a bit tricky to solve so it can take a while to figure out the best looking way of doing it. I will try to fasten as much as possible on the frame with those green hydraulic tube clamps so I won´t have to weld 100 brackets to it, some things like the gearbox mount will off course be a thick steel plate welded to the frame but the mounts for the oil and fuel tanks etc. might as well be removable.

Today I´ve made the rear wheel "dummy" for the frame jig, it was difficult to measure the bearing placement in the wheel since they aren´t symmetrically placed like in the front wheel but I think I got it right. Everything bolted together with the rear axle and the bits and pieces that sits on it and ready for welding. And the finished part with the rear axle in place, I haven´t welded the piece to the jig beam yet since that would set the wheel base and I haven´t decided that measurement yet. I need to read through the SCTA bike rules first to see if there are any limitations to it so I don´t build a bike that I am not allowed to race with... Cheers!

On a side note I tried the noble art of lost foam casting today with a friend, even though I hadn´t mixed the silica sand with bentonithe we got a rather impressive result... ;D I am tempted to make a casting of the compressor housing in case something goes wrong during the test runs, it would save me massive amounts of machining if I could copy this housing instead of having to mill out a completely new one. Preferably done before the first test run, I will try to get a sack of bentonithe and make green sand out of the silica sand I have now.

It appears photo-bucket has their mind in the gutter, or is a frustrated maden in need of a new toy.
Johan .. I know you have a viking back ground but damn forgeing you own part is a bit pagganistic. I did a lost wax cast once... Could not find the wax anywhere and the part looked rough.
Great job.

Ernie, cannot say I understood half of what you wrote there. You must be just as drunk as I am now. ;D Anyway, here is the pic uploaded on a friends webserver.

I guess they would notice the edges once it´s in there, I showed my feancee the casting today and she didn´t look very interested. If I had smoothened the corners a bit more I might have got a more positive response, but I guess I´ll never know.

WTF is that thing?!?!?!
The scary part is Ernie doesn't really drink! Ernie, didn't you say you wanted to build a front engine jet dragster where you sit behind the engine? The skin on my arm is from my ass. It's pretty handy, if I want someone to kiss my ass I just pull up my sleve.
