Ok awesome i will have to do the same and add weight to the front. at the moment you can pick the front end up with one hand with a person in the kart.

Likewise here...when empty it's a "one finger" pickup for mine....but tbh...it spends very little time actually being driven...most of it's life consists of doing static engine runs at car shows etc... How fast does it go when driven? TBH I don't really know....John and I have done the math, power/weight etc... and it "should" be good for well over 200kmh...John believes possibly even more..! Smithy.

John...I've had to replace the poor old blower...it's finally died a horrible death Was starting run a bit strange, making some strange metallic internal noises and losing power when throttling up... was giving me a heart attack whilst starting the GT6041. I suspect it has finally thrown a big end roller bearing judging by the noise it's making... It's served us well..may it rest in peace..! Also, the carby was all corroded internally and the float wasn't real healthy either, to repair it would probably cost more than the old girl was worth.... so....I've now got hold of a nice new 85cc ~5hp blower. Transferred "elephant trunk" over to the new one, made a few "creative engineering" modifications to the throttle lever and she now easily starts the 6041 at just over 1/2 throttle...It had one of those "pistol grip" type throttles which needs a hand on it at all times so I just used the old blower's throttle lever and adapted the cable to suit..works well. Did a small "show" yesterday at Narellan Bunnings store with Darren Morgan's Top Fuel Machine raising money for a local children's charity...was a good day and between the kart and the little dragster I burnt ~70 liters of fuel...Did 5 runs and not one flame-out...strange really because I haven't changed anything...was pretty cold in the morning too..! Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
LOL.............you wore her out ;-)...........the new blower sounds like its more than up to the job .
Yeh , probably good for ~250 kph - 150 mph as a terminal speed , the 90 HP Super karts do those speeds , the maths ..........HP = resistance in pounds X feet per second divided by 550 , so 90 = resistance X 220 ft/sec( 150 mh) div 550 , so 90 X 550 div by 220 = 225 lbs of resistance , now if transmission is 95% effic , we'd only need 213 lbs of "thrust" to do the same job .
Cheers John

Hi All, Just an update to proceedings on the 6041 powered kart...I've had the paintwork, (actually it's a vinyl wrap), changed to a riveted "distressed aircraft" look. I'll try to post up a pic of it later. I've also finally got the "propane free" full fuel start system working...not perfect yet but it works...
I'm using a Rolls-Royce C30 igniter system, it's similar to the C20B unit but is ~80mm long and sits right near the fuel injector spray cone. I found the diesel glow plug just didn't work as expected, so I've ditched that idea.
Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
A nice improvement ...........LOL, I've always been too lazy to experiment with removing the preheat propane , there always seems to be more urgent job to take care of .
Yes , pics please :-)
Cheers John

Hi John, Long time since I have updated this thread....nothing much has changed apart from my battery/power supply setup, nothing special but am using an old motorcycle battery to run most of the onboard electrics, a 6cell Li-Po for the igniter and another 6cell Li-Po for the main fuel pump.
John, I have been invited and am intending to go to the Newcastle go-kart track again this year for the charity car/bike show. You're more than welcome to come along if you so choose.
Smithy.

Hi Smithy
Good to hear you're still entertaining the masses and spreading the message :-)
Newie is a bit far for me :-( ..........a 50k radius from home is about all I can cope with these days .
LOL........you're gunna have to find a long stretch of tarmac one day and give her a decent drive
Cheers John
