Early days, but have decided to build a quad Holset HT80 afterburning Turbo-Jet. I have three and the fourth is currently en route from the US, will get it in a few days. Andy M and I have been discussing the build layout and banging our heads together regards the complex branches that will be needed. For the exhaust it will be 4 x 6" into a single 12" section, flanged to allow a custom re-heat pipe of an even larger diameter. Since the turbo's will be sitting at 45 deg from the centre line the outlets will be quite close together, approx only four inches apart at their closest, so the branch will not be very long at all. The combuster outlet will be 8" into four 4" pipes at 45 degrees from the centre line and each turbine mounting flange will have an offset angle of 22.5 degrees. The layout lends itself to quite short compressor discharge sections into the main burner can. Learnt much over the years, primarily - Keep it simple - so no complex electronics on this one...As a matter of interest John, the total intake area sums up to 40 square inches allowing for the hub area subtraction, how do your numbers work out the anticipated thrust?. Fun times.

Hi Nick
Mmmmmm, 40 sq ins- 0.28 sq ft , the numbers are getting rather big ;-)
Probably work on ~10 lbs/sec max flow, so getting up around 6-700 lbs on A/B without too much trouble I'd imagine.
Yes Andy ............a wonderful Thing :-)
LOL, can't wait for the Build Thread
Cheers John
