Hey I am getting ready to design my engine and I have a few questions. Which turbo compressor should I use or does it matter? And where I in the Thomas kamps book does he talk about how to calculate the combustion chamber dimensions?

Hi
Towards the back of the book , ~page 80 .
Have flametube cross sectional area ~3 times comp inducer area.
As for which comp wheel to use , .............its your pick.
Designing an engine isn't a good idea unless you know what you're doing, thats why theres plans in the book.

Yes I am only trying to make a jet engine to make one. Not to power an airplane or anything. I am a mechanical engineering student and I eventually want to make a really good engine but I haven't taken all the heat transfer and fluid dynamics classes yet. So I figured I would build a starter engine now and then when I get more schooling I can alter it or design a better one .

With such a small compressor it should be reasonably compact and easy to work on etc...I've found the smaller the engine is, the more important it is to get your numbers right..The larger engines tend to be a little more "forgiving" in regards to flame tube dimensions etc...
I have several turbines of varying sizes and have found the really small ones are very difficult to get running nicely due to fuel burn time constraints. I have a fully functional turbine at home which has a tiny compressor with an inducer of only 21mm, exducer is 33mm....she idles at 100,000rpm and will run to 240,000rpm. This is 4,000revs per/sec...does my head in just thinking about it..! Pretty sure John has seen this little beast too..!

Hi Nate
Your comp wheel inducer is only ~20% smaller in area than Kamps , so it should be flowing roughly that amount less , so simply reduce the cross sectional area of the flametube by 20%
Kamps flametube is 100 mm OD with ID at 40 mm , maybe go 95/45 mm , or simply leave the flametube at the same size and simply reduce all hole areas by 20% , a slightly more voluminous flametube doesn't hurt as long as your hole areas are OK .
