If anyone is using the Chevrolet Small Block M-55 please share the details of your experience. It could be a a low price alternative to the Shurflo. It is $27.00 verus $100.oo for the Shurflo. It is less motor and coupling.
Thanks, Ron

I'm using one of these style pumps - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Pump-Ford-FWD-Courier-Escort-Fiesta-KA-Orion-XR2-1-0-1-1-1-3-1-6-OHV-engine-/310110483185You need to make up a mounting/port plate (pretty easy with a drill) but has the advantage of a built-in filter etc Aluminium is rather fun to drill, not looking forward to tapping though.. Final part of the oil pump setup arrived, didn't think about trying to screw three 90° elbows in besides each other... Will widen the holes to allow more play and will file 1mm off the brass elbow as plenty thick enough to clear the coupling.

I've used the Subaru oil pump from the early 1,600cc pushrod engine EA71 Mounted "parallel" Or in "series" I used either 36V or 24V motors run on 12V to reduce rpm to that required to supply the required flow rate The pump flows ~9-10cc/rev , so no problems providing 10 lpm at good pressure , I usually upgrade the internal relief spring so that it starts bypassing at 70 psi

The standard small block Chevrolet oil pump is a Melling M-55. It seems to be easily adaptable to our use although it will require a separate filter housing.

All, in researching gear pumps I discovered a common application for a small gear pump is turbo savaging. Prices very from $88 to $350. Flows are from 2.5 to 3.5 gpm.
The following is an $$88 unit on eBay.

Hi all, I have been using a 12v Marco up9. Bronze helical gear pump available in 12 or 24v. items.marco.it/en/up9-heavy-duty-pump-12-l-min.htmlIt’s a little expensive at about £150, but the advantage being a single unit no engineering a pump/motor coupling and compact. Have had way over 5 bar with it on cold oil (at high current). I have since used the 24v version for a project at work, which has so far supplied 4 bar for 15 hours or so and still going strong. It should be noted that the 24v version however is not suitable for PWM!! Cheers Scott

Hi Ron I did make a lower flow pump using the geared 350W motor for my 9/94 engine www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y8jpaDTkEY using the same Subaru oilpump , not a complete success as the rpm were a bit too low for the pump to operate properly . I've got an ungeared 350W motor but it looks too difficult to adapt a pump directly to , but with a coupling probably OK Cheers John
