Yep , thats whats used, a simple butterfly valve , the gas pressures are relatively low and the massive volumes mean any small leakage is "acceptable" .

John, some time ago you suggest a ideal start blower would be as follows:
"Now if there was only a blower with ~1 psi pressure build and 1 lb/sec flow , but would need ~5 HP to drive it , mmmm, maybe one of those big brushless "outrunner" motors or a 24V diesel engine starter motor.

The Makita 75.6 cc backpack blower has .9 lb/sec and .8 psig with a 3.8 hp 4 cycle gas engine. Getting close.

Not the best pic but got the wheel cover bolted dowled in place and clareanced which was a job I needed to finish

As you probably can tell the end 20mm has to much clareance probly .60 a side but we'll see how she goes I can make a new one later.

Don't be too concerned about the clearance , a Garrett GT6041 turbine wheel 119mm exducer has 0.030" radial clearance ( 0.060" diametric)

Ok so just got the big girl spooked up for the first time without a jet nozzle and it run fine but didn't produce much drive turbine speed at mid power levels don't know what to think is this because it was unloaded or I've messed up somehow the temps were the same as the nozzle test that suggests the vains are correct in the drive turbine any thoughts guys.

We'll my boost gauge didn't work for some reason so can't say exactly what pressure it was about 15 odd psi and the wheel was only doing about 500rpm
