This is my first turbine build. I have built this engine using a turbo from a Caterpillar C15(Garret). I have had relative success but am concerned about EGT. The turbine is getting red hot at higher RPM. I dont have any means yet to measure EGT but just wanted to know as a basic guideline, red hot is not good I'm guessing? Also I'm getting some fluttering but I'm thinking that might be due to the position of the fuel injector being above the primary holes of the F/T. Any advice would be well appreciated. Rick.

I'm a newbie, but from what I read maybe your problem is related to the primary holes. But wait for the experts 😉

I'm new to all this to.but I have had to work through a similar problem as long as you following the 30 20 50 rule you should be close to where things should be.also where is your charge pipe going into your flame tube it should be right at the bottom inline with your sustain holes that's a big part to consider a few pics would help.take a look at my kart build and see how mine is.

Hi
A dull dark red isn't a problem , its when it starts getting brighter and tending towards orange that we need to back off the fuel .
I'll need a lot more info and pics of the engine to be able to diagnose the engine further.
Do you have a jet nozzle fitted ??
What sort of fuel/injector ??
Cheers John

>My inlet comes in under the tertiary holes. I made a combuster where the inlet was at the primary holes and to the side creating a spiral airflow and that worked better. Hi Rick
The C15 engine is a decent size, so I imagine your turbo has a fair sized compressor inducer diameter , could you please give details .
Generally propane is only suitable up to an ~2"-50 mm inducer size , greater than that, the airflow rate and consequently the fuel flow rate required is too great for gaseous propane use .
Cheers John

It ran smooth with my old combustor with the inlet at the prmary holes and at the side of the combuster creating a spiral airflow
