>> Trying to locate a GTP 30-67 or equivalent.. I have three. One is in a US Air Force GTGE-30 400hz gen set. Other two originated from same gen set but are separate with no 400HZ alternator on the output side. Where are you located? I'm in CA, San Fran Bay Area. >> Any Thoughts. Fun turbine to play with. Very forgiving and friendly. Was my first and still one of my favorites. The ignition exciter is almost always dead but other than that they are quite reliable. Let me know if you're nearby... I love the GTP-30-67, but have too many turbines and would not mind selling one of them. First time I got one to light (sorry for the lousy video, I had a sucky cell phone back then lol): www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-YqEGgs5bsAnd the GTGE-30 after filling the combustion chamber with fuel (bad ignition exciter). I shut off the fuel when it started taking off: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1yKNXCcrmkPlaying around repairing an ignition exciter with a new HV power supply: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVVawppQnZkI should get some better videos of this stuff.... Thanks, Alex.

Thanks Alex. Would love one. I am in the Jacksonville Florida area. What would you want for the complete genset. I would have to include freight charge. Thanks David

Have you considered the one in a genset currently on Ebay? It's in CA as well, looks rather nice and priced reasonable.... I'm not associated with the seller, but saw it and thought looks pretty nice.
Thanks, Alex.

Thanks Alex, Saw it and looks nice but pickup only. I priced shipping for something like that and would be around 800. What would you need for Turbine only.
Thanks David

David,
Thinking under $2000 on a GTP-30-67... They are pretty light, might be able to ship it UPS...
If you're interested, let me inventory the parts present and absent: Working ignition exciters are at a premium (I don't have any original ones that work, use a home made one at the moment). Some plumbing and a few other minor things.... The devil is in the details lol. How resourceful are you on things like ignition exciter, plumbing and such?
Thanks, Alex.

Thanks Alex..I am an electronic engineer by trade..very mechanical. Used to build drag cars..this just sounds fun. Looking forward to hearing from you.. Have already started a control panel but having trouble locating an rpm percent gauge and how to wire it...

Hello Alex, If you have 2 bad ignition exciters I can probable make a 24 vdc type bang box. Not sure of dimensions and connectors used but can make 2 and send you 1 back for testing.

David,
Sounds like the ignition exciter problem is not going to be a big deal for you.
The stock GLA ignition exciters are a soldered metal case with rubbery potting material inside. The potting material is fairly easy to flake off. Inside we have:
A "vibrator" type interrupter circuit with a coil and contact points in a metal box (maybe filled with nitrogen or SF6). That's what usually fails. The output from that goes though a cold-cathode glass tube diode thing that looks super suspect. Those two parts I eliminate and replace with a small HV power supply putting out ~ 3Kv. Emco makes nice small ones that are reasonable on Ebay.
Past that you can use the stock components: A huge capacitor that doesn't seem to fail. There's a spark gap enclosed in glass, which would wear out eventually but I have never had problems with. Once the capacitor is charged enough, the spark gap triggers and dumps the energy into the primary of a little pulse transformer, which is mechanically and electrically connected to the output terminal. That part doesn't seem to fail.
Lemme see if I can find an extra bad one you can repair. I bought a few from Bruce at Avon Aero a while back.
That and I'll get some photos of the turbine I have for you. Sorry about the delay, kinda got overwhelmed with a pair of GTD-350's and other goofy stuff.
Thanks, Alex.

Thanks Alex..I found a 12vdc pulsejet igniter from hobbyking rated at 20 kv. Ordered 1 to play with. Also a 24/12 converter...I am going to dissect and see how small I can make it.
