Hi Ben
The domed cap requires 10% of TOTAL hole area , so 1/3rd of Primary hole area , as we agreed some time back.
The air coming in from the dome starts mixing with the fuel spray before meeting the main primary holes, as well as keeping flames from contacting the dome
Cheers John

Hi John, In my spreadsheet I took the total area, worked out each part from the total area but for the primary zone I subtracted the amount of dome+cooling. Here is the formula view if that helps

Superb, I am jealous!!! I am very much waiting for the right time (and space) to get a lathe!!! Did it come with all those baked beans too?

If only, buy them bulk from costco and store in the garage till needed lol.
Yes it's a clarke lathe and mill so not the best quality for money and I could have spent that £800 on a decent lathe however it's 180*300mm between centres so very compact and good enough for my small bits. Plus it comes with loads of extras (metric+imperial leadscrews, 4 jaw chuck, mt2 collet chuck set for mill and some cutters and extra jaws for the 3 jaw to do external grabbing. It's all a year old however hardly any use.
I found it on gumtree and decided to buy it the next morning lol

Hi, If you intend on keeping this lathe for a while I would suggest as a worthwhile mod that you change the two speed gearbox gears (inside the main body where the spindle goes through) from the current standard fitted plastic ones to metal ones and whilst you've got the gearbox stripped it's also a good idea to change the spindle bearings to angular contact ones instead of the standard ball bearings that are fitted, both the metal gears and the angular contact bearings are available from here, www.arceurotrade.co.uk/ I have done these mods to my Clarke lathe and they are well worth it You can also get the metal thread cutting change gears from this company as well.
