Hi Andy
You've been standing at the lathe for quite a while carving out that stainless piece , stainless makes beautiful bits , but its so slow to turn up .
Engine progressing nicely :-)

Hi John,
yes it took some time, but I have good inserts for stainless. 4 mm in dia each step is no problem.
The problem is the heat after machining half an hour. For clearance tolerance, i had to wait until i could touch the part😉
Today i bent the fuel and gas brass tubes.
Also fitted the turbine into the ngv/nozzle section👍

Hi, got the turbine wheel fitted into the ngv/nozzle segment. A clamp arrived for something to fix on the jetpipe outlet. Prepared the fuel and gas tube for the injectors. The screws are a bit too long, but its only for testing😉 Andy

Hi Andy
Nice workmanship on those bits :-)
The engine will be together pretty quickly .
Cheers John

Hi Andy,
You are making very fast progress. Are the “U” shaped tubes evaps (Although they look to enter from the compressor side)? And what did you use to form such a tight bend on them?
Cheers

Hi, I just had to machine a "normal" turbine wheel onto the shaft. It was fresh out of the mold and without shaft hole. After some grinding the outer dia, it fits perfect into the ngv. For comparisation the sizes😉 HPST, CPS, AMT Mercury Andy

Hi Andy,
Impressive progress you are making here!
If I wind up using evaporators, I have a similar problem to overcome. Right now I'm going to try a higher pressure nozzle system. We'll see how that goes. If it doesn't work, I'll go back to evaporators and I'll need to make some sharp U bends like this. To bend the tube like that you need to fill the tube with something like bismuth. You melt it, pour it into the straight tubes and let it solidify. Then make the bend. The bismuth keeps the tube from collapsing in the bend. You can probably use solder, but bismuth melts at a lower temp. After bending you melt out the bismuth/solder.

Hi Monty,
I tried to fill the tube with fine sand, but it didnt work.
For 100 mm stainless tubing i had to pay 25 Euro incl. shipping. So 2,60 for an already bended tube isnt bad and it saves some time and work😉
I will go in hollidays for 2 weeks. Stay tuned!

Hi Ralf,
Nothing new😫
I still have to wait for using a friends big mill to finish the ngv.
Last weeks I was buisy with the little AMT Mercury.
When the AMT is finally running and a ugly slow plane is built, then I start agaim with the next engine.
I have to rename it maybe CPS 2024🤣
