Hi Guys, Regarding John's 10/98 project, I've held some of these parts in my own hands and his attention to detail is second to none.
The workmanship he has considering the tools he is using is superb. He has helped me enormously with my own projects as well.
John doesn't live too far away from me and I hope to be present when he fires this beast up for the first time, I'm sure it will fire into life on the first go too. I'm that confident in his engineering abilities.
Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
You'll be here :-)) ...........................I owe you for all those rotor balancing jobs everytime I wrecked a set of bearings in "The Fat Lady" .
Will disassemble the rotor you balanced and fit to the 10/98 today , it'll be nice to spin her around in the brass bushes and not have to worry about balls .
It seems somehow easier to assemble this engine than previous ones , maybe I'm finally getting the hang of it ...........bit of a slow learner .
Cheers John

oops ................an epic failure , can't fit the spark plug cap or remove the plug I thought I was going great with the mounting of the engine to the test stand until I walked around the other side , how embarrassing , didn't get the plug in the right spot ............bugger . Guess I'll just have to cut some insulation off the plug and make it shorter Cheers John Attachments:

ouch.. guess we would never learn anything if we always got it right the first time. Good luck

Hi Richard
Problem solved , got the side grinder to work on the sparkplug and cut half the insulator off , can now remove the plug ( just) , I tried finding a long reach plug with a short insulator like the smaller short reach plugs in little 2 stroke engines but its seems they're not available .
Only some umbilicals to hook up and she'll be ready for some prestart trials of lube , ignition and motoring up on the starter to get a general feel of things before lighting the fire proper .
Cheers John

Great work John, not long before the first start!

Hi Anders Yep , everythings in its place , finally was able to power up the lube pump today , flows just on 10 LPM at nil pressure , but when I hooked it to the engine and running at 60psi ( pressure relief setting) , the engines rotor became rather difficult to turn , looks like I'll be needing a decent sized starter , theres no way my leafblower will get it up to sufficient rpm to initiate a start . More thinking required ;-) Cheers John

Do you really need 60psi during the startup?
With a bypass valve for starting you should be able to lower the oil pressure to 30-40psi and get the shaft spinning a bit easier.

Hi Anders
I'm always a bit wary of lowering lube pressures as I tend to forget things in the "sensory overload" of a spoolup , prefer to use a stronger starter and be done with it , less chance of a stuffup :-)
Cheers John
