Evening Chasps, Have another show this coming weekend 4th & 5th July, it's actually a "model" show with model steam trains and RC cars etc... at Hawksbury Showground near Richmond airforce base..I think my little dragster should fit right in... Don't know how they're going to handle the Go-Kart though... Cheers, Smithy.

I'll see how I go for free time this weekend as it gets closer, am yet to see the go kart going in the flesh. I'm only down the road at Penrith.
Any particular times you got planned for that, or just whenever you feel like upsetting near by toddlers?

Any particular times you got planned for that, or just whenever you feel like upsetting near by toddlers? That'd be cool if you could come along for a looksee...I usually do engine runs etc at random times during the day....I try not to have a schedule if I can help it ...depends on what is happening at each show, sometimes they have live bands etc and I don't want to give them grief....although I do have a little "clock" to put up if I need to do timed runs etc...I should be there both days. Am Hoping my son finishes off the carbon fiber "vinyl" wrap this week so I can at least put the front fairing on even if the nose isn't finished...new seat arrived today too...will try and get it fitted for the weekend. Cheers, Smithy.

Hi All, I have just ordered a "spun aluminium" 8"x16" fuel tank to fit to the side of the Go-Kart...so I will have an extra ~13.25 liters to play with for a total of ~22liters..! Should allow me to run the beast for a good 10-12mins or so I hope, We'll soon see if the oil temp rises during the longer run times and whether I'll need to add a fan/fans to the oil cooler.
Should have it in a couple of weeks or so.
Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Smithy
That'll look cool :-)
Those current 9 litres are just a tad small for such a thirsty beast .
Cheers John

Cheers John Hi John, Yeah...9 liters just doesn't allow much "play" time, I like to leave a liter or so in the tank so I don't run the 4 pumps dry, she is indeed thirsty so the extra fuel on hand will certainly help. Had to clean out the carbie on the start blower, was a bit gummed up with residual fuel "snot". I noticed it struggling to idle and was not running nicely during a couple of recent car shows...eventually it would only run with the choke on....so it was definitely gummed up....took it to work, pulled it to pieces, gave it a thorough talking to, ran it through the ultrasonic, back together....all good now, starts first pull most times and runs nicely without the choke. Cheers, Smithy.

Hi All, Just a quick update of proceedings, was fumbling around in the shed last night, new seat fitted, nice new heat shield around the turbine housing and dual (12v 11ah 220CCA) Gel-Cell motorcycle batteries connected in parallel. Am still waiting for the bodywork to be finished off with C/F wrap and she should look pretty good. My Son should have these finished in the next week or so, I'll post a few pics when it's done. Cheers, Smithy

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the links, I might have a good look at something like that in the future if my current setup doesn't work too well...have to test it all out properly though...
Cheers, Smithy.

Hi Brett, No worries BTW where did you get that heat shield from? Cheers, Mark. Hi Mark, I bought the heat shield from SuperCheap, ~$60 IIRC.... it comes in a flat sheet, 70cm x 29cm, this one: www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Platinum-Heatshield-Material-HS1S-700-x-290mm.aspx?pid=121225#RecommendationsAll I did was just cut it to the correct width, the length was actually spot on, so I was a bit lucky there, I then folded one edge ~4cm so it fits/hooks around the front side of the turbine housing, did a couple of measurements so I could cut some "V" slots on the folded side, see the first pic...which allowed it to be rolled to shape around the housing, attached a couple of springs under/around the bottom side of the combustion chamber to hold it in place...job done. I have some heat sensitive wiring around and close to the turbine housing and needed something to at least help keep the radiant heat at bay, should hopefully help with radiant heat issues for the oil tank too.. I've been looking on fleabay etc for quite some time trying to find a suitable heat blanket for the GT6041, but came up short, the ones I did find were horrendously expensive...I just took the cheap DIY option... Half hour of measuring, cutting .... fumbling around and it was sorted. Cheers, Smithy
