Hi there folks, my name is Jessie McKinnon, I am brand new to jet building, as the username suggests. I am a welder by trade, am somewhat mechanically inclined and feel that I have a good intuition for physics. My turbocharger jet engine project is well underway, and I was hoping for some advice from you fine folks on whether I should sally forth, or go back to the drawing board. I have done a fair amount of research, and at the same time I am sort of winging it. Any advice would be much appreciated! I am documenting my project by way of Facebook. Here is the link: www.facebook.com/jmjetkartThanks!

Hi Jessie
Welcome to the Group :-)
Are there any specific areas of your build that you're uncertain about ??
Cheers John

Hi Jessie Welcome to the Group :-) Are there any specific areas of your build that you're uncertain about ?? Cheers John Why yes, pretty much everything 🤣! 1. Does my turbo have the potential to be an engine? 2. Will the impeller welded into my afterburner work as a flameholder? 3. What are the best 12v systems for fuel delivery/oil circulation/ignition? 4. Will my exhaust stack afterburner work, or melt upon ignition? I will browse the forum for answers to some of my questions, perhaps even start a thread of my own about the project if that is permissible. Most of what I have built so far is from different resources on the internet, and some just from my own intuition. Again, I’m documenting the project on FB; www.facebook.com/jmjetkartHere also is my amazon wish list of parts I think I’ll be needing, please correct me if any of it is no good. www.amazon.ca/gp/registry/wishlist/2U054WWSP13CK

Hi Jesse
Most diesel engine turbos will work as a gas turbine, its really only the automotive ones with wastegates and undersized turbine stages which have problems.
Be careful about putting too much stuff in the afterburner , if it "chokes" the flow you'll have losses.
EFI fuel pump and Shurflo 8000-643-236 for oil , it must have oil compatible seals
Afterburners generally need to be stainless steel as a minimum .
We'll continue over on your Build Thread
Cheers John

Hi All,
Somewhat 'new' to DIY jet engines, I've seen the videos on youtube for several years and had a look at the jetspecs program and RCDON's site however only now seriously thinking about doing some proper research and building my own engine, Andy Morris and Anders youtube channels are what brought me here. I'm an engineer by day but turbomachinery is a new field for me. I have a few ideas I'd Like to hopefully materialize.
Hope you don't mind me picking your brains

Welcome shin
Brain picking is what the Group is all about, there should be someone here that can answer your queries .
Cheers John

Hi. I have just found this forum at YouTube. My name is Andrei, 29. I think the first time I saw a diy jet engine was at Discovery Channel, a tv show called junkyard war or wars. Then I got really amazed, they basically solved all the problems of high rpm and weight balancing by using that old turbocharger instead of building all from scrap. Nice place here.

Hi
I am new to jet building, build ed one and burn it...made it from junk...mechanical engineer, spray painter,...great motorcycle fan,so the plan is to try build something more reliable and slap it on frame so far im not happy with calculations and seems hard to find any good spot(formulas, explanation) how to calculate burner and don't want to waste money and burn everything again ...hope to find answers here...
